The Burning Monk Photograph (June 1963)

On June 11, 1963, Thich Quang Duc, a Buddhist monk from the Linh-Mu Pagoda in Hue, Vietnam, burned himself to death at a busy intersection in downtown Saigon, Vietnam.. Eye witness accounts state that Thich Quang Duc and at least two fellow monks arrived at the intersection by car, Thich Quang Duc got out of the car, assumed the traditional lotus position and the accompanying monks helped him pour gasoline over himself. He ignited the gasoline by lighting a match and burned to death in a matter of minutes.

David Halberstam, a reporter for the New York Times covering the war in Vietnam, gave the following account: I was to see that sight again, but once was enough. Flames were coming from a human being; his body was slowly withering and shriveling up, his head blackening and charring. In the air was the smell of burning human flesh; human beings burn surprisingly quickly. Behind me I could hear the sobbing of the Vietnamese who were now gathering. I was too shocked to cry, too confused to take notes or ask questions, too bewildered to even think…. As he burned he never moved a muscle, never uttered a sound, his outward composure in sharp contrast to the wailing people around him.

This guy was amazing, didn't make a sound or move a muscle all the time he burned.

Re: The Burning Monk Photograph (June 1963)

How much would it suck if...

He's burning away thinking "I am moments away from merging with the higher conciousness. In moments I will achieve Nirvana and be freed from this earthly body"

At which point he dies... and wakes up, in spirit form, standing in front of a strange new bizarre gigantic horned & armored god sitting on a titanic throne

And the god bellows "You did not worship me, the one true god, the punishment for this is Eternal Torture!"

Monk: "w--wait no.. but.. Buddha.. Buddha taught that--

The demon god yanks on a chain from behind his massive throne and out comes a grovelling buddha in chains

Buddha: yes m'lord, what does m'lord desire?

Demon god: take this mortal to the torture pits immediately

Buddha: yes m'lord

Monk: awww fuck! I knew I should've gotten drunk, done drugs, and had anal sex while I still had the chance...

Body Building or burning alive without moving or making a sound......

I think its obvious which one is more impressive (and takes a lot more balls)!!!!
