Bill's correct, but I've personally seen pretty considerable damage made by shotgun wads out to even 60-feet away. But not all shotgun wads are the plastic-cup style. Some are a fibrous-pellet-type wadding, which is what I find in most of my shotgun buck/slug ammo (usually Sellier & Bellot brand.) Perhaps the fibrous wads are more aerodynamic or dense and carry more energy further out. *shrugs* But that's purely academic, related to the grouping-pattern in this photo. Given a typical 18-inch barrel-length and cylinder-bore, I'd guesstimate this fellow was within 15-feet of the shooter. |
