Most people don't necessarily realize that it's going to happen when they set out to hang themselves. We know, because we browse this site and see that it happens. If they do diligent research on the process before attempting, then they may come across information mentioning it. But for the most part, they have no idea it's happening until it happens. And by then it is generally too late, as it typically occurs only seconds before blacking out and losing consciousness. Sometimes after. And no, I don't play hangman in my basement when I get bored. Contrary to popular belief.  This information comes from hanging suicides who have survived the process and from victims of strangulation who have survived the process. Last thing most of them remember is losing bladder/bowel control and then blacking out. You'd be amazed (or not, if you browse one of the Hanging threads on this site) at the amount of people who are hanging dead in wet pants...two feet away from a perfectly serviceable toilet.  |
