On 5th February 2018 in Pedernales, 3 people, including a father + son, died while digging a septic tank. The deceased are: J.J.T., W.J.M. (his son) + 25 year old P.J. It was reported that 'J' fainted inside the hole + 'W' + 'P' tried to help him. All three were found dead inside the hole.

Re: 3 Die when Digging a Septic Tank
Is that one dude missing a fucking leg? Did they actually send a one-legged man 30 feet into the ground to dig a hole? The dark result seen here shouldn't have been hard to predict, sending a fucking one-legged man that far into the earth. The fuck was he supposed to do? Hop back up? |

I am named after an uncle who died digging a well in Wisconsin. These kinds of deaths used to be pretty common.

Re: 3 Die when Digging a Septic Tank
In the old days, when pretty much everyone dug their own wells - they would send down a candle before any man would go down. If the candle stayed lit, it was safe for them to go down - if it went out, it meant that dangerous gases had collected that would make the men pass out and die. To get rid of this gas they would make a little bomb of packed gunpowder. When it went off, the gas would dissipate. That was explained to me from my great grands, from their parents. Hope it's true.
