Many cultures do not have a specific word for 'teenager.' The word for 'young adult' is used interchangeably in an abundance of cases. When someone for whom English is not the primary language attempts to translate the story into American English, the misunderstanding is an easy one, especially if translation software is also being used. Very easy oversight to make. I've made it myself several times when translating foreign languages into English for posting on this site. |

Teen = numbers thirTEEN through nineTEEN... Therefore TEEN ager would be the age in that range...
