Armed gunmen stormed into a bar, killing twelve employees and customers around 8 p.m. this afternoon in the December 12th neighborhood of Irapuato, Guanajuato. Local news is reporting that six women and six men were killed as well as three others injured. Photos of the event show the carnage inside, where the gunmen opened fire on dozens of partiers.

Local security expert David Saucedo told Borderland Beat that bars, restaurants, and other similar businesses are often targeted by criminal groups for selling or allowing the sale of drugs supplied by a rival organization.

The gunmen did not leave a message or state their allegiance, which sometimes happens when businesses are attacked. According to El Sol de Mexico, the armed attackers fled the scene in two vehicles after the attack.

The attack happened at the Bar Texana, on 773 Calle Jamaica. Some news sources have spelled this as 'Tejana', and La Silla Rota reported that the bar was also known as "El Pantano". There have been many attacks on businesses and people on Calle Jamaica over the last few years.

It used to be fun to go to Mexico and drink in bars like that. Then I quit drinking and Mexico started killing.

Jesus Christ man, WTF? Why do we continue to do this to one another? This reminds me of an incredibly realistic dream I keep having. It starts with me taking my kids shopping for school clothes in some huge store, like an old mall, or something. We round this corner and walking through the door is a guy with a rifle ( an AR-15, or an SKS, something along those lines it's hard to tell ). He brings the rifle to his shoulder and instantly fires on people in front of him. I push my kids behind me towards the corner and reach for my piece, it isn't there.

My motion catches his eye and a half second later he's drawn down on me. While I'm trying to get my kids around the corner with one hand and reaching for my gun ( that's not there ) with the other. I'm staring at the muzzle of his rifle and (BOOM!) Everything goes black and I wake up knowing I'm dead but never finding out if my kids are okay.

The whole incident from first seeing him to being shot is maybe four seconds or so. It happened so damn fast that my mind didn't truly realize what was happening until it was too late. My body however seemed to act on instinct. I would imagine that's how these poor folks felt as they were being killed as well.
