Re: 11 Year Old Boy Suicide
Young kids can fail to grasp the idea that dieing is a ONE way street! Unlike all the immortal, magical, beautiful, and strong characters that kids think they need to be like ie... Superman, Hulk, Harry Pot-head, Wonder woman, Linda Lovelace etc... |

Re: 11 Year Old Boy Suicide
I posted it for the benefit of those interested in the medical/forensic case - for the rest of us, it's of less value, I admit. The small spots in the pericardium (latin: "around the heart" - a "sack" with the heart in it) show that the reason of death is asphyxiation, in this case hanging. |

Re: 11 Year Old Boy Suicide
Yes, that could be one factor. I remember at least two cases here, when a severely bullied teenager ended up committing suicide. I also agree with kellyhound that the neglect, violence and/or sexual abuse they have to endure because of some sick adults can also lead them to believe suicide is the only way out.

Re: 11 Year Old Boy Suicide
In fact the reason for the study was the growing suicide rates in children and adolescents. A few lines from the study: "Suicide is a growing cause of mortality. It is among the top ten causes of death and between the second or third leading cause of death in young people, according to some studies of South American countries. The official rates of suicide are underestimated. Children and adolescents from families with a history of alcoholism and a history of suicide attempts represent the largest number of cases. Some authors believe that the violence that often accompanies alcoholism, family dysfunction that generates a negative impact on the behavior of the child or adolescent, representing a risk factor for suicidal behavior. This background is related to this case." The boy had an alcoholic father, but showed no signs of trouble in daily life. |

Re: 11 Year Old Boy Suicide
As the father of a 10 year old this hits close to home. As a parent kids face so many more challenges and pressures then we did at that age. Parents need to be good role models and communicate with their children so no other parent has to go through something like this.
