10 Years Stuck Behind a Grocery Store Cooler in Council Bluffs, Iowa
I came across a couple of images of a freak accident that was discovered a couple of days ago. I will quote a news article pertaining to the incident. "Workers removing shelves and coolers from a former No Frills Supermarket in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in January discovered a body behind one of them. The remains were recently identified as those of L. E. M.-M., a former employee who had been reported missing November 28, 2009. Investigators used his parents' DNA to confirm the identity, and the clothes matched the description of his attire at the time he was reported missing. His parents reported their son missing after he became upset and ran out of their home. They told police at the time that he was acting irrationally, possibly because of medication he was taking. Officers contacted family members, other law enforcement agencies, nearby detention centers and even the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency -- he had been deported to Honduras before making his way back to the United States -- but received no information regarding his possible whereabouts. Investigators now believe that he went to the supermarket and climbed on top of the coolers. The space was used as storage for merchandise and employees would sometimes go there to hide when they wanted to take an unofficial break. He is thought to have fallen into the 18-inch gap between the back of the cooler and a wall, where he became trapped. Noise from the coolers' compressors may have concealed any attempts to call for help. An autopsy found no signs of trauma, and the case has been deemed an accidental death." |

Council Bluffs? Isn't that somewhere near Omaha, NE? Lots of immigrants relocate to the Omaha Metro area, before heading to bigger cities like Chicago. Anyways, it is possible that he got upset because he feared being deported again. Though medication probably also has something to do with it. Being stuck in such a claustrophic spot for a long period of time, is one of the worst ways to go. For me, at least. I'd rather burn alive. |

I heard of a woman that fell between two walls and - after stinking for a while - mummified. IIRC, the smells of decomposition were attributed to rats dying in the walls (which I gathered was not uncommon in that area). Also, the walls were so close together that most people thought is was impossible for a person to fit between them. |

I found them through Facebook, had them personally inboxed. I also forgot to add a screenshot image of a Facebook wall conversation of past customers expressing the strong smell emitting from the cooler area... But am not sure how I can upload an image on here, DR asks to insert image URL but the image is on my device, not online. |

Re: 10 Years Stuck Behind a Grocery Store Cooler in Council Bluffs, Iowa
Apparently he was in a particular spot above the cooler where employees were forbidden to go near. It was a spot that was solely used as a storage area. But some employees have gone to that spot to sneak extra break time without being caught by managers. I assume he was working a shift and perhaps decided to take an extra break without wanting to be spotted, so he went up on top of the cooler, a forbidden area. Was he having a smoke break up there? Which position did he fall? Head first? Sideways, or upwards? These are some questions that will hopefully surface some answers. This was a freak accident and a really sad tragedy. |
