Sunday, April 13, 2008 - Ship Collision Off Kyushu Island Leaves 3 Chinese Dead, 13 Missing.

A collision between two Chinese vessels has left three people dead and 13 others missing, said reports from the southern port city of Kagoshima on Japan's Kyushu island.

Freighter Shinyo Sawako, a vessel from China's Hong Kong Special Administration Region, and the fishing boat Lurongyu 2177 from the Chinese mainland collided on the waters some 350 km south of Takarajima Island, part of the Tokara chain of islands south of Kyushu, citing the Japan Coast Guard.

The fishing boat sank immediately after the crash, only two of its 18 crew members have been rescued

i wonder where they got the picture from, i cant imagine someone standing there and taking the picture on a camera... especially if everyone but 2 people drowned

This picture was taken from the stern deck of a large tug, not a fishing boat. Looks like they are trying to get a tow line aboard the Shinyo Sawakoa.
If you look at the left side of the picture you will there is a crew member with a heaving line.
Also you would not normaly get this number of crew on a tanker looking over the bow in this weather unless they were trying to get a line onboard.
You can see the tow line on the deck, there is no sign of any fishing gear!

Looking at the picture again I see now that the man on the right is just about to throw a heaving line up to the men on the bow of the tanker.
When they get it they will attach it to that white rope which is coming out of the bow fairlead and over the rail. The crew of the Tug will then pull this rope back to the Tug and attach it to the heavy towing cable which is on the deck. The crew on the Tanker will then pull the towing cable back with a winch and attach it to a bollard so that the tow can get underway.
