Not fake at all. Hearts have an autonomous electrical system that works independently from the body in the event of a lack of external neurological input. It'll keep beating until the muscle is oxygen-depleted and exhausts. On a somewhat related noted, if you ever visit an abbatoir for cattle, watch what the tongues do after they have been cut out of the animals for over 15 minutes. They still crawl along. |
