In the USA licenses, registration and insurance are a State matter and there is no national database. Besides, it is the law that the registration and license be in the vehicle. You learn that the very minute you start driving. Fines are tremendous for not having insurance. Police will usually give you a day or two to present proof of insurance at the station. I'm from the USA but live in Canada. One year I honestly forgot to renew my insurance. My husband got stopped and the insurance had lapsed. Our car was impounded and we could not get it back until we had valid insurance. The fine, at that time, was approximately $2000. It is now up to around $5000. |

Good job officer , Thank god for cameras or that would be the next big story on every news channel . Went from a Insurance ticket to much worse . Without the camera that officers would probably loose his job and god knows what else . That was by the book .  |

USA is wayyyy behind the times...no database, at least not as of a couple years ago. you could present any fake piece of paper you printed at home and it would satisfy a traffic stop-even a legit "insurance card" is still just a piece of 8.5x11" paper printed on a laser printer in black and white in the insurance office. and the fines are no where near the thousands of dollars quoted here. I know, ive been there, don't recall offhand but it was $500 or less, probably $250

Cars are registered with the state they are in, not the Federal government. Driver licenses, too, are issued by states (although all the states have an agreement to recognize the valid licenses of other states, so you can drive anywhere in the US with your license). With the exception of New Hampshire, all the states in the US require that a driver be able to present proof of valid car insurance if requested by the police. Car insurance is a private industry, so the policy could be from any of dozens of companies. Insurance policies can lapse, and if you are not driving the car you do not need insurance for it ("non-operation" registration). A central database, even within a state, would be extremely cumbersome to maintain, with no guarantee of accuracy. It's more reliable to simply require drivers to keep valid paperwork in their car. Current valid registration for the car itself is also kept in the car. |

Still don't understand where cop cock-gobblers get off on saying we should all "comply" with and listen/look up to officers like this. Please. I know of some real redneck motherfuckers in my town that are still more qualified to carry a gun than these trigger-happy clowns. |

Personal opinions aside, did you even watch the video? She wasn't able to show proof of insurance, wouldn't follow the officer's directions and became very irate with him. What do you think would happen to you if you followed the same path? |

Many people don't understand escalation of force because they're retarded liberals. I think all officers should have mandatory body cameras. It would put a lot of issues to rest and save the taxpayers billions in lawsuits. |

You technically don't but not having proof will require you to goto court on a later date to prove insurance.  why not just print out a price of paper and keep it in the glove box?
