I think it's pretty difficult to understand his situation without more information. Assuming his circumstances is pure speculation.

He could've just deluded himself into thinking he'd be living off welfare in the US since America is the "promised land".

Edit: Also, let's further point out people like the Hmong or Vietnamese who fled during the Vietnam War. Many of them are thriving and prospering in the US through their own hard efforts. So, that Afghani is full of shit that America fucked him. With 4 kids and a wife, you'd think he'd be more responsible and put more effort into adapting to the US than constantly whining and expecting handouts while pumping out more kids while attempting to leech off the welfare system.. some people...

In all fairness, the people you mentioned who fled weren't necessarily militarily aligned with the United States. Many of them were future victims of genocide who were evacuated.

If what this guy claimed was true, then he fought against the Taliban with our army. He mentions disability. Perhaps, he's physically fucked up from fighting and needs the help, rather than just trying to take advantage of the system.

As I mentioned previously, we are working with very limited information from the claims made in the video. But, I needed to respond to your idea that the Hmong and Vietnamese who fled Vietnam were not militarily-aligned.

Most definitely the Hmong were aligned with US forces during the Vietnam War and would have probably been wiped out by the communist govt if they weren't evacuated.

As for the Vietnamese, there were definitely people among them who had supported the US military or by other means. So, some had definite risk.

The reason I specifically pointed out these two groups is due to their similarity (of circumstances) to the Afghanis who fled. The reason why I might have sounded harsh about that specific Afghani in the video is due to the known history of Afghanis (or other "refugee" muslims) who often don't contribute or integrate to their newly adopted countries and just mooch off the welfare system. It's pretty well-known.

So, that's why I said that his complaining seems to be whiney, weak-ass, "woe is me" bullshit when other similar groups (meaning similar circumstances coming from a war-torn country and fear of persecution or death) were able to eventually integrate, contribute, and 'succeed' in American society.

Does that mean those groups didn't suffer or have periodic hardships? Of course not. But, they were eventually able to overcome and adapt.

So, that's what prompted me to think that that Afghani doesn't seem like he made enough effort and just wanted free hand-outs from the govt.

No, what I meant by that was that since I wasn't alive then, I haven't consumed information about that occurrence, so I wanted to express that I don't know anything about it. I've heard of it, but I don't know anything about it. Typically, people tend to know more about something that occurred in their lifetime.
If you've learned or studied something, by all means, say something; but I didn't, so I wanted to make that clear before I asked the question.
