Police Dog Survives Stabbing, Suspect Shot.

On May 13, 2024, Greenville County Sheriff's Office and agents with the Department of Homeland Security were attempting to arrest 51-year-old James Edgar Hopkins, for his outstanding warrants at a hotel on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greenville. Authorities located Hopkins outside the hotel. During the arrest attempt, officers noticed Hopkins was armed with a knife. Despite deploying tasers and a bean bag gun, Hopkins managed to stab a GCSO K-9 unit and fled to the nearby Bank of America parking lot. In the ensuing chaos, three deputies opened fire on Hopkins, striking him. Hopkins was subsequently taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital to treat his injuries, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). No officers were injured during the incident. The K-9 unit, which was stabbed during the confrontation, was rushed to an animal hospital. The GCSO reported that the K-9 Micky has since recovered and was released on Friday, being taken home by his handler. Hopkins faces charges of aggravated breach of peace, cruelty to a police dog and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon. No other officers were injured during the incident.

Re: Police Dog Survives Stabbing, Suspect Shot.

An incident happened where I live, about 3 years ago there was a man with a warrant who RCMP spotted in a tim hortons drive thru. The man I believe was Jared Lowndes, he stabbed police k-9 and killed the dog and stabbed the officer/dog handler wounding him. Police then shot him and killed him.
Because Jared was aboriginal there was a outrage in the aboriginal first nations community. They were angered over Facebook posts where people made comments like " that p.o.s. Jared should be ground up and fed to the next police dog." The community was divided with people who were upset about the police dog being murdered, and the others accusing the police of killing an aboriginal man, saying the police should have moved in on Jared and arrested him instead of sending the dog in first which led to the events of both the dog and Jared being killed. A few months ago the court ruled the police officers acted accordingly and no charges to be laid.

I would think he would’ve been charge with attempted murder of a police officer since they consider dogs with that title.

I can watch beheading, stabbings, shootings, but I just cannot watch animals being abused/hurt
