Cops Pull Man Over for Air Freshener
A black driver was recently pulled over by a white police officer in Providence, Rhode Island, for having an air freshener inside his car.

Yeah he had a bit of an attitude and he's lucky he didn't get a ticket for something, but I would be a bit pissed off if I was pulled over as soon as I left my driveway. Also, by law the officer is supposed to tell you why you're being pulled over before they ask for your license and registration, he didn't.

"Probable cause" covers a lot. If I recall correctly, you can ask if you are being detained or under arrest. Either way, I believe you are allowed to ask the circumstances for either. Here in Missouri, they can only detain you for 20 minutes. I never read that in law, but that's what the deputies/cops I worked with called the "magic number". Particularly when MULES was down, we'd hear "I can't keep them much longer" gripes.  Bottom line, if they don't have you on anything, stall. Follow orders, but stall when you can. They can only detain you for a short period, at least here. |

A police supervisor and detective met with Harris after the incident, and said that because they were looking for another African American man, Harris’ younger brother, the stop was “justified” based upon “the totality of the circumstances.” Harris notes that you have to always film the police, at every encounter. “You never know what can happen with what’s happening across the world today. What if I didn’t record him, and it got out of hand? Then the police and court would be siding with the cop. I need to make sure they do the right steps and do the right procedures.” So was he pulled over for the air freshener? No, it would seem he wasn’t. The air freshener was the pretext for the stop, which was really about Harris “fitting the description.” |

Police don't have to tell you whatever you demand to know under your explicit orders and in the time frame which you demand. In short, they will NOT let you dominate the situation which is what this creep was attempting to do which is typical low life Ghetto Trash behavior. Had the Thug simply cooperated, the cop would have politely explained. Now, as it turns out, the low life Ghetto Trash Thug piece of cr*p has a brother for which the police were looking. So, Trayvon Martin here had a Michael Brown brotha. These are the type of scum with which the police have to contend. Nome sayin'...? |

Certain states have different laws. Most states Police do have to tell you WHY they are pulling you over, look it up. know what i'm saying you racist POS? If you were a cop we would have another corrupt dick on our hands, know what i'm saying? If you were a cop you would probably be in jail by now, know what i'm saying? |

He was probably looking to cause as loud and obnoxious a tantrum as possible to divert the cop's attention and/or warn his brother to stay out of sight or give him a chance to escape.
