Re: Cop Suspended for Threatening to Kill, Pointing Gun at Media in Ferguson, Mo
Update: the guy in the video is in fact in his early 50s, he looks nowhere near 40 to me. According to what I read he claimed he saw someone with a gun and that's the reason he pointed the weapon. He was allowed to resign. If you look closely in the background you can see another cop's reaction to him pointing the weapon. That and the sergeant's reaction are telling.

lmfao why do they always see a gun lol. is that taught in academy training 101 .seems to me there are two types of policemen in America . first is your normal policeman/woman who is doing a bloody good job under extraordinary pressure at times . the other is a police person that should never have passed the interview to begin with . why is there such a large gap between good and bad within the police force in America . |

Re: Cop Suspended for Threatening to Kill, Pointing Gun at Media in Ferguson, Mo
Because each police agency chooses their own police officers from their own hiring pool of applicants. Every state and jurisdiction has their own hiring criteria (ie: education, training, background issues, ethnicity, training standards, etc.). What might be acceptable in one part of the country might not be in another. Some agencies prefer their officers to have higher levels of education and are willing to pay higher salaries to get that type of candidate. Other agencies want lateral transfers because they can't afford to send folks through a basic police academy. In general you really get what you pay for with regard to police candidates. The more tightly you screen them and the more education you require them to have (or get while employed) and the cleaner their backgrounds, the better product you start with going into a basic police academy. Every individual going into law enforcement brings things with them (ie: prejudices, like/dislikes, experiences, etc.) so each person is unique and so is their technique of enforcing the law.

Re: Cop Suspended for Threatening to Kill, Pointing Gun at Media in Ferguson, Mo
Don't forget this guy is a lieutenant (second level field supervisor) and probably doesn't work the field very often anymore. So his perceptions might not be as spot on as a patrol officer. If this guy truly felt threatened (and could articulate his reasons) then he was legally justified in pointing his firearm at the individual(s) that he was being threatened by. It looks to me that he committed a breach of his department's policies...that's why he resigned instead of being prosecuted or fired. The guy was probably in his early fifties (like me) and just said fuck it when confronted by his higher command. He still gets his full retirement and medical and more than likely won't need to work a full time job for the rest of his life. Just because he chose retirement and quit doesn't mean he was guilty of anything. He might has just gotten tired of his command staff looking like political pussies and botching the whole riot thing. What scenes I saw made me want to puke they were so fucked up...I can't imagine what most of those Officers thought who were on the ground.

Another piece of shit cop who thinks he's Captain Fucking America! Pointing a weapon and telling peaceful protesters you'll kill them, is not the actions of a competent, intelligent, professional police officer. He needs to be fired. I wouldn't give him a job as a security officer at a pig shit factory!

Correction: Turns out the guy in the video was reported to be 46 according to news reports. If I'm not mistaken another cop was the one who was in fact in his early 50s. Got the stories mixed up.
