Cop Facing $5 Million Dollar Brutality Lawsuit After Punching Man Repeatedly

A Baltimore Police officer is facing $5 million dollar brutality lawsuit after a video surfaced showing him repeatedly punching a man.

The video, which was released on Monday from the man’s lawyers, shows Police Officer Vincent Cosom repeatedly beating Kollin Truss, while another officer holds Truss’s arm as the blows are delivered to his head and torso. Officer Cosom punched Truss six times.

“Much like the public, I’m shocked, I’m outraged, I’m disgusted by what I saw by an employee of the Baltimore City Police Department,” Commissioner Anthony Batts said during a press conference addressing the video.

The attack happened three months ago on June 15 when Officer Cosom had a verbal exchange with Truss outside a liquor store.

The officer’s report said Truss was intoxicated at the time and that he told the man to move when he was loitering in front of the shop.

Re: Cop Facing $5 Million Dollar Brutality Lawsuit After Punching Man Repeatedly

I'm guessing the initial call was regarding a drung/public intoxication inside the liquor store. There really isn't any justification for what that officer did. His defense attorney might suggest that the drunk made threatening comments coupled with an aggressive movement and that the officer was just reacting to a perceived threat. I don't think that's a winning argument...unless the drunk was known to the officer to be combative and had a history of attacking officers while drunk. There might me some odd ball mitigating circumstances (that we aren't privy too) that led to the officer reacting like he did. The two other officers appear to have done nothing wrong or out of policy. They look as suprised as anyone else by the one officer's reaction.

Five million dollars is a tad bit much for that minor amount of abuse. The city attorney and the officer's attorney will dig the dirt on the drunk and he'll end up settling for around $150K to $250K. I'm fairly sure the drunkard has priors and is at least a semi-scumbag with a history of alcoholism. The officer will more than likely claim stress or and undiagnosed mental illness and retire or be suspended and later quietly re-instated. The copper just lost his shit...not something every cop hasn't been faced with from time to time. This guy apparently just couldn't handle one more idiot.

The cop was in the wrong.

At the same time, how do you hold it together dealing with this human filth day in and day out?

Re: Cop Facing $5 Million Dollar Brutality Lawsuit After Punching Man Repeatedly

Oh yeah...you're right, that drunkard really won that one.
alleged 'drunkard'. the officers reports stated he smelt like beer. The officers. The 'facts' we have to base our opinions on are the video.

That shows no crime commited by the assault victim. Hearsay!! he may have said this, he may have said that, I bet he is a drunk, I bet he is this, I bet he is that but are you not a exponent of fact and justice? You yourself have managed to say this is wrong.

“Much like the public, I’m shocked, I’m outraged, I’m disgusted by what I saw by an employee of the Baltimore City Police Department,” Commissioner Anthony Batts said
.

if he was indeed a 'drunkard' then this drunkard was walking away based on the footage (only facts we have) got suckerpunched hit several more times and stayed on his feet. yes that is a victory. The comisoners making a statement like the above. victory. Possible payout of millions.

yep that 'drunkard' really did win this one.

The cop was in the wrong.

At the same time, how do you hold it together dealing with this human filth day in and day out?
I agree to a degree but you have to. You have to hold on to whats right and whats wrong. Our actions are not always right. Just because its what we would do does not make it what you should do.
