If that cop just took abuse like that, did nothing and walked away, he'd have no chance of maintaining order in a mob situation. Mobs smell weakness, and assuming alcohol is involved, will probably take advantage. Still, he was lucky. If that crowd had taken the kid's side, turning his back like that could have had disastrous results.
