A black teen armed with a hoe chased a deputy who was investigating a family disturbance. Fortunately, a cover officer was able to shoot the boy before he could injure anyone. He died at the scene.

APPLE VALLEY, (March 9, 2024) — On Saturday, March 9, 2024, at approximately 4:48 p.m., San Bernardino county deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to an emergency 9-1-1 call at a residence in the 13400 block of Iroquois Road. Family reported that Ryan Gainer, age 15, was actively assaulting family members and damaging property at the residence.

At approximately 4:54 p.m., the first deputy arrived at the residence and was confronted by Gainer, who was armed with an approximate five-foot-long garden tool (Hula-Hoe) with a sharp bladed end, and a frying pan. Without provocation, Gainer raised the bladed end of the tool and ran toward the deputy.

The deputy retreated and Gainer chased the deputy in an attempt to assault him with the bladed end of the tool. A lethal force encounter occurred, and Gainer was struck by gunfire. Deputies quickly rendered medical aid to Gainer and continued until paramedics arrived. Gainer was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The first cop into the residence, decided to run, rather than shoot him, the other cop had a choice to make, some will say maybe he should have held fire, but what if he caught up with cop number one, his chance to get a clear shot had gone... Respect to the sheriff for both being perfectly transparent, and for pointing the finger directly where it needed to be pointed. Fuckin cops shouldn't be expected to play babysitter for the mentally ill.
