Re: Active Duty Soldier Illegally Disarmed by Police

To be fair I was on the soldiers side until I saw what gun he had, I thought it was just a hand gun but since when can you carry around an assault rifle legally? He didn't look like he was on active duty either, I feel the cop.was within his rights to arrest him.
I'll try to clarify a few things for you, in most states of the United States of America it is legal to carry a "long gun" in public, even assault weapons can be carried if you are legally in possession of it. Some states require you to have a CCW to do this, some (like my state) don't even require that much. There are laws about public gatherings and government buildings so understand your laws. Also, AR-15's are not assault weapons, and even if it were, assault weapons are legal (although fairly expensive, and annoying to acquire) in all but 4 states. Ill rap it up with this, in order for police to detain someone they are supposed to have articulable cause to suspect that person has committed a crime, they failed that part, and then went grabbing for his weapon (which is a good way to get killed in many situations) people who are ignorant of gun laws and call the cops on someone for being in possession of a firearm are menaces to society, they endanger the police, the man with the weapon, and everyone around them. If you think the police were within their rights to arrest this man, you need to look up your local laws and read them.

it's about defending the public from possible harm, be it voluntary or not. it overrules personal rights
That's where you are wrong, personal rights do not get over ruled because someone feels uncomfortable, if they did fat women, religious people under the age of 50, and people who think like you, would be in internment camps, because I feel pretty fucking uncomfortable when confronted with the lot of you.

I never understood why you would open carry.. You lose your surprise element if your in a situation. I carry concealed, its my ace card, the puke who wants trouble sees a guy with a gun and hes the first target..Just my opinion.

around here, civilians are strictly not allowed to carry long firearms outside their homes. they are strict about granting license to own one and triply strict giving out permit to carry. there are several exceptions but not as a rule. only people in the force are allowed to carry those in public.

sometimes, knowing you carry and looks you're legally allowed to carry is a good crime deterrent.

although civilians here like me are not allowed to carry a weapon in plain view. whenever given permit to carry, its one of the conditions that it should be worn out in the open. i carry mine inside my shoulder bag, or clutch bag. or concealed in my belt in an inside holster.
