Re: 17-year-old Deven Guilford Tasered, Shot, Killed by Police After Traffic Stop
I don't know how many people here remember being 16-17 years old, but the assumptions of how he should have acted are coming from adult brains. He's a KID. Most likely a newer driver. Those headlights ARE way too fucking bright. I cringe when cars drive toward me with those damn lights. He might not have had his license on him. Again, he's a kid and I don't know how many 17 year old boys you've met, but they aren't the brightest in law (or life yet). Their brains are still growing. Sure, some are lazy and don't bathe and slur their speech (point being I don't believe he was intoxicated). Throw in a dark, deserted road, probably the first time he's been pulled over, panic sets in. I don't know about you, but I wasn't taught all of the ins and outs of law enforcement in driver's ed classes. It takes time to learn that. So what if he tried to assert his rights and not get out or show ID. He's a kid. They do stupid shit ALL the time. Some buddy of his probably told him to do that, so he did. Maybe LE should have more experience dealing with young people, education on brain development, and expectations of what they may and may not know. How we should respond to LE in this day and age is rapidly changing. When I was 17, I would never dream of being shot by a cop. Today, I'd be scared as hell in his position. To the commenters who agree with his death, were you all some sort of geniuses when you were a teenager? Have you ALWAYS driven with your license on you? I may have forgotten mine at home 3 times in my life, but that's still 3 times I wouldn't have been able to show it if I was stopped. The cop lost all credibility when he flat out lied about the badge number as soon as the kid turned his phone on. It would be my guess as well that he probably had the responding officer clock him in the nose to say he got attacked. He never should've been pulled over in the first place. Flashing your lights to warn other motorists of LE is illegal. It's not illegal if you flash because you can't see. Hell, I've accidently hit my brights because I was trying to wash my windshield and just forgot which side it was on. There is zero justification for this kid being murdered. |

Stupid ass. He should know that at 17, even if he was driving without a license, it's not staying on your adult record. Worst case (aside from getting shot to fuck like he did), they'd have probably called his mom to come get him... but you know, that or just be dead, I guess is fine too.

Except for the part where he attacked and mounted an officer and continued beating him about the head and face in a dark ditch on the side of the road. I mean, sure, other than that, totally unjustified.

Re: 17-year-old Deven Guilford Tasered, Shot, Killed by Police After Traffic Stop
The kid took off running after being tased. Between the time that happened and the shots fired, we have no idea of what happened except based on the officer's word and the sounds on the cam. Frost already lost his credibility to tell the truth. I have a hard time believing this kid did what was said. He would've had no reason to run and could have fought the officer at the car. I think the officer may have tackled him and the kid punched in defense, but there's no logic and his behavior didn't suggest violence in any way. It suggests naivety and fear. I tried pausing and it looks more like the kid was trying to run past him and the officer chased him. I'm not a video analyst - just my opinion. The officer was bigger than him, so maybe it's stupidity of teen hormones thinking he could take him on, but you can't deny that 7 shots is overkill. He shouldn't have been pulled over in the first place. He kept asking for a license even though he said he didn't have one. He didn't ask him to get out of the car until after he opened the door and started pulling on his arm. Frost kept escalating shit that was unnecessary. Frost's injury looks like the slide of his gun whacked him in the nose or a buddy gave him a quick punch. Frost denied any assistance from EMS or transportation to the hospital. He was asked many times how he felt and he said he was fine. Right after the shooting, Frost was laughing and called Deven a stupid kid. There's audio on YouTube. All of his blood is directed downward. If he was on his back being punched, it would go in many directions. The cop is a liar and needs to check his ego. There is a chain of appropriate escalation. You never go more than one above what the other person is doing. Most often, you try to de-escalate. Even if Frost was punched, you're saying he couldn't get the upper hand on this kid as a physically fit LE officer? Lethal force is a last resort and this kid wasn't even armed. |

Kid like that.. should've just let him run. Follow in car and call backup. Little bugger probably would lead the cops straight to his house and parents. It's standard procedure here for children safety. And that suspect was obviously just a child.

Re: 17-year-old Deven Guilford Tasered, Shot, Killed by Police After Traffic Stop
When I was a kid, I knew a guy named Kenny that was 17-18 when he got half his head blown off by some Sheriffs that he had tried to run down with his car. Even at that young an age, I gotta say...he had it comin'. RIP, Kenny. Kenny was a handsome well muscled and well sculpted long haired 'bad boy'. The girls loved him. He had a good sense of humor and could be hilarious. At the same time, he was dangerous. You could never really be sure with him. The sad fact is that the world is safer and better off without him. |
