I am the first to admit that Islam (esspecially fanatical extremism) is a fundamentally damaging ideology and is one of the biggest threats to free thinking in the world today. That being said the way these guys are reacting to the conflict is the most rational course of action they can take given their (albeit distorted) perspective. It's like blaming Africans for the spread of AIDS because they didn't grow up in an educated industrial society that understands the dangers of infectious disease and viruses. You can't chose where you are born and people in the civilized world often take for granted the education they received and just assume everyone should know better despite the lack of intellectual resources given to them. After reading some of the responses I have heard here I can almost guarantee some of you if born in one of these countries run by Imams would have no qualms with defending your homeland against infidel invaders. And why wouldn't you? If the first world is seeing it fit to 'fix' the problem with ballistic missiles and machine guns then why shouldn't they use what resources they have at their disposal? Imagine how different this war would be if instead of dropping bombs we started dropping shipments of textbooks on philosophy and science, or sending discrete unfiltered satellite internet services to get access to the information that could actually reform these damaging cultures (it would also be much cheaper). Seems a better option as oppose to guaranteeing another generation of people who hate the western world, only this time they have good reason to.

And before someone comments about going soft on these people after 9/11. We killed osama without a full scale invasion. Someones been picking off nuclear scientists in Iran. And not to mention the fact that virtually none of our troops are even in the country most of the 9/11 terrorist actually came from.

These terrorists are monsters in almost every sense of the word. But much larger armies have been beaten without warmongers wasting billions/trillions of dollars on death machines.

So keep praising your troops, make them feel good for reinforcing the beliefs of the uncivilized world that shooting your enemy is the best way to handle conflict resolution, it's worked great so far. There is a time and place for war, but fighting a ragtag group of terrorists not bound by any borders is a vast waste of time, resources and human life.
