He was probably alive, until he aspirated his own blood. In both clips, it looks like the majority of the trauma stops just south of the forehead. He lost a good portion of his frontal lobes, but the mid- and hind-brain (i.e. the centers of homeostasis regulation) were probably intact. Naturally, the dude was out like a light the second he got popped; but it probably took a minute or two before he was completely gone.

Some observations: i heard a faint ringing/whistle just before the explosion. Had to be the incoming ordnance; either an RPG or a light tank round. Also, the second shooter who replaces him at the corner appears to have an accidental discharge into the ground. It looks like he steps up, tries to shoot, then stops to disengage his safety; at which point he fires a round down near his feet. Maybe he was just testing it or clearing a jam. Meh.
