Re: Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571
I've read an article about this one before and I think this is very interesting. I don't know would I do that to stay alive, probably in that situation, yes.. It must be horrible to starve to death, but then again I don't know if there would've been a way to commit suicide. But I think that those people who survived by eating the corpses don't regret what they did, at least they got away from there alive.. |

Re: Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571
Yea! especially with a Uruguayan cast! But hell, just get it made, I agree! Probably won't happen though, out of respect for the parents of the lost ones. But we can dream. I adore pork. I think of a rack of ribs when I watch it now. Sorry but its true. |

Re: Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571
The Expedition to Civilisation As we can see on the map, from the Crash Site itself (A), the survivors were within walking/climbing distance of a road. But Roberto Canessa and Nando Parrado only spoke of this road when they reached the summit. It took them three days to reach the summit. To their dismay, it was only the first summit of many, that stood between them and civilisation. From their view-point, what they thought was a road, looked so small. At the time, they said it was a one in a thousand chance, whether or not it was a road at all. They decided to head toward the valley, as originally planned. They ignored the "road" which was miles away and in the direction from where they'd just came. If they had went toward the road, unknown to them there was actually a hotel. But there was also a river before then. It's extremely doubtful they would have managed to cross the river. "To the West is Chile" became their mantra. Nando said, had they known the distance they had to traverse, they would have never attempted it. But now they had no choice. Armed with sleeping bags made from the plane's insulation, and a sockful of meat, they kept going. They walked and climbed for 9 days before they reached the Rio Azufre river valley. It was there they finally made contact with Sergio Catalan, a Chilean horseman. (marked as X) When looking at the map, and trying to judge the distance Nando and Roberto walked, remember to factor in the terrain. There were many summits they had to climb to reach help. Also, the line dividing the map down the middle is the border between Argentina (to the East) and Chile (to the West). Not a road or river! A = Flight 571 Crash Site -34.76500, -70.28639 X = Rio Azufre river valley -34.79517, -70.47268 |
