Re: 2012 Executions in the USA

Robert Henry Moorman

Executed February 29, 2012 at 10:23 a.m. by Lethal Injection in Arizona

Victim:

Roberta Maude Moorman, 74

Crime:

Moorman, 63, was originally in prison for a kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl in 1972. He was granted a 72-hour "compassionate furlough" from the prison to spend time with his adoptive mother, Roberta Moorman, on January 13, 1984, when he brutally murdered her. Moorman stabbed and suffocated his 74-year-old adoptive mother just five minutes drive away from the prison at the Blue Mist Hotel. He chopped her up into pieces, cutting off her head, legs and arms, and then halved her torso and flushed her fingers down the toilet. Moorman than went to a number of business in the area and asked if he could dispose of spoiled meat and animal guts in their dumpsters, throwing out other body parts in trash cans and sewers. He was arrested when he asked a corrections officer to throw out what he said were dog bones.

Citations:

State v. Moorman, 154 Ariz. 578, 744 P.2d 679 (Ariz. 1987). (Direct Appeal)
Moormann v. Schriro, 426 F.3d 1044 (9th Cir. 2005). (Habeas)

Final / Special Meal:

A double hamburger, french fries, two beef burritos, two 14-ounce containers of rocky road ice cream, and three RC Colas.

Final Words:

"I hope this will bring closure and start the healing now and I hope they will forgive me in time."

Georges Rivas

Executed February 29, 2012 at 06:22 p.m. by Lethal Injection in Texas

Victim:

The seven inmates had fled a South Texas prison about two weeks earlier.

Citations:

Texas no longer offers a special meal. George Rivas was served barbequeue chicken for his final meal, just like the other inmates at the Walls Unit.

Final Words:

"First of all, for the Aubrey Hawkins family, I do apologize for everything that happened. Not because I am here, but for closure in your hearts. I really believe you deserve that.

To my wife, Cheri. I am so grateful you’re in my life. I love you so dearly.

Thank you to my sister and dear friend, Katherine Cox, my son and my family. Friends and family, I love you so dearly.

To my friends, all the guys on the row, you have my courtesy and respect.

Thank you to the people involved and the courtesy of the officers. I am grateful for everything in my life. To my wife, take care of yourself, I will be waiting for you. I love you, God bless.

I am ready to go."

Re: 2012 Executions in the USA

Keith Steven Thurmond

Executed March 7, 2012 at 06:22 p.m. by Lethal Injection in Texas

Victims:

Sharon Thurmond, 32
Guy Fernandes, 35

Crime:

Sharon Thurmond lived in Magnolia, Texas in Montgomery County with her husband, Keith, and their six-year-old son. In the summer of 2001, she took the child and moved in with Guy Fernandes, who lived across the street.

On 30 August 2001, Keith Thurmond traveled to Sharon's mother's home. He banged on the back glass patio door, demanding to see Sharon, but her mother told him she was not there and told him to leave.

Fifteen minutes later, Thurmond returned and again demanded to see Sharon. Sharon came to the door, but did not open it. According to Sharon's mother, Thurmond told her, Sharon, and Fernandes "that we were all wrong in what we were doing, and that Sharon was going to get hers and that he was going to get Guy."

On 25 September 2001, Montgomery County deputies served Thurmond, then 41, at his trailer home with a protective order placing his son in Sharon's custody and barring him from having contact with her. It was the second court order against him that Sharon had obtained. After the deputies left with his son, Thurmond put on a black karate outfit and paced inside his trailer home with a sword and a .45-caliber handgun. His brother, Tom, and a friend urged him to settle down and let the courts resolve the custody dispute, but Thurmond replied that he was "very mad" and was "going to do something stupid."

Thurmond then went across the street and killed the couple. Sharon, 32, was shot outside the residence. Fernandes, 35, was shot inside the residence. Fernandes had also been beaten on the head. Pieces of the gun were near his body. Thurmond then blockaded himself inside his home with at least two firearms, holding police at bay for more than 2 hours before surrendering peacefully.

Citations:

Thurmond v. State, Not Reported in S.W.3d (Tex.Crim.App. 2004). (Direct Appeal)
Thurmond v. Quarterman, 341 Fed.Appx. 40 (5th Cir. 2009). (Habeas)

Final / Special Meal:

Texas no longer offers a special meal. Keith Thurmond was served chicken spaghetti for his final meal, just like the other inmates at
the Walls Unit.

Final Words:

"All I want to say is I'm innocent," Thurmond said from the death chamber gurney. "I didn't kill my wife."
He blamed the shooting deaths on another man. "I swear to God I didn't kill her," he said.
With that, he told prison officials: "Go ahead and finish it off." And as the drugs began flowing, he said, "You can taste it." He wheezed and snored before losing consciousness.

Therein lies the damn problem. This child molesting piece of shit should have been killed for harming a child and NEVER let out of jail to see his adoptive mother.

How do some of these judges sleep at night when shit like this happens.

I LOVE Texas justice. They do not waste time. I also like that they don't offer a special meal. Serve them whatever is being served in the cafeteria that day!

Re: 2012 Executions in the USA

In the case of Thurmond, I wish more women who have protection orders against someone would purchase a firearm and receive training. These paper orders often do nothing more then infuriate the other party and often the woman is attacked or killed.

It would have been nice if this woman was packing and saved the taxpayers of Texas some money by killing him. Then the poor little boy would still have a mother.

I'm sure Texas has some by now, my birthplace, and death place.
