Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
Brett Xavier HARTMAN Executed by lethal injection in Ohio on November 13, 2012 ![]() Victim Winda D. Snipes, 46 Crime Hartman met 46 year old Winda Snipes at a bar in Akron and admitted they had sex several times before she was found murdered in her apartment. The police discovered her body tied to her bed and stabbed 138 times. Her throat was slit and her hands were cut off and never found. The police responded to the apartment after several anonymous 9-1-1 calls. Hartman later admitted making the calls and hiding across the street as police arrived. Statements made by Hartman to police, a co-worker and a fellow inmate mentioned cutting off hands to eliminate evidence. Hartman eventually acknowledged that he had sex with Snipes earlier in the day at her apartment, went back later only to find her mutilated body, then panicked. He defendant washed her blood off his hands and clothes, tried wiping down everything he touched, removed evidence linking him to her apartment, and left after calling 9-1-11. He approached police at the scene and said Snipes was a "psycho bitch" and deserved what she got. He also said that he was disappointed because Snipes refused to have anal intercourse with him so he left. A bloody t-shirt was recovered from his bedroom, a knife from his dresser, and Snipes's wristwatch from his bed stand. Citations: State v. Hartman, 93 Ohio St.3d 274, 754 N.E.2d 1150 (Ohio 1991). (Direct Appeal) Hartman v. Bagley, 492 F.3d 347 (6th Cir. 2007). (Habeas) Final/Special Meal: Steak with sauteed mushrooms, fried shrimp, baked potato with butter and sour cream, macaroni and cheese, vanilla ice cream with walnuts, Pepsi, Dr Pepper and Honeycomb cereal with milk. Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
Ramon Torres HERNANDEZ Executed by lethal injection in Texas on November 14, 2012 ![]() Victim: Sarah Beth Gonzales, 13, and her cousin Priscilla Almares, 12 / Rosa Maria Rosado, 37 Crime: Hernandez eventually confessed to police that while driving with his girlfriend, Abel Abdygapparova, he and Santos Minjarez saw 37 year old Rosa Maria Rosado at a bus stop. Minjarez tried to grab her purse, and when she resisted, he pulled her into the car and covered her head, and Hernandez drove away. They stopped at Hernandez's house to get tape to bind Rosado, gagged her, and went to a motel, where she was raped and killed. Abdygapparova provided a written statement of the abduction, robbery, sexual assault, and murder of Rosado. She also led police to the body, the motel where the events occurred, and the car she had sold after using it in the crime. Hernandez claimed it was Minjarez who had raped and killed Rosado. At the time of Hernandez's arrest, he was a registered sex offender on parole from an 18-year sentence after admitting in court to a burglary where a woman was raped. Jurors at his 2002 capital murder trial also learned that Hernandez was linked by DNA to the 1994 sexual assaults and slayings of a 13-year-old girl and her 12-year-old cousin in the same San Antonio area where Rosado was abducted. Santos Minjarez was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. He died while on death row in January 2012. Asel Abdygapparova was convicted of capital murder in 2005 and was sentenced to life in prison. The conviction was reversed in 2007 and she is awaiting retrial as of 2012. Citations: Hernandez v. State, 931 S.W.2d 49 (Tex.Crim.App. 1996). (Direct Appeal) Hernandez v. Thaler, 463 Fed.Appx. 349 (5th Cir. 2012). (Federal Habeas) Final/Special Meal: Texas no longer offers a special "last meal" to condemned inmates. Instead, the inmate is offered the same meal served to the rest of the unit. Final/Last Words: Addressing his brother: “Did I ever tell you, you have Dad’s eyes? I have noticed that in the last couple of days,” Ramon Hernandez said. “I’m sorry for putting you through all of this. Tell everyone I love them. It was good seeing the kids. I love them all, tell mom, everybody. I am very sorry for all the pain.” Then he urged other prisoners on death row to "keep fighting; don't give up." |

Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
Preston Craig HUGHES III Executed by lethal injection in Texas on November 15, 2012 ![]() Victim: Shandra Charles, 15, and her cousin Marcell Taylor, 3 Crime: 15 year old Shandra Charles and her 3 year old cousin were found stabbed in the chest and neck on a dirt path behind a restaurant. When the police arrived at the scene, Shandra Charles was still alive. She told a police officer that a man named “Preston” had stabbed her after trying to rape her. Police went to an apartment complex near the vacant field in which the victims were found. The manager of the complex gave them a list of tenants. The only tenant named “Preston” was Hughes. The officers went to Hughes’s apartment, and Hughes agreed to accompany officers to the police station, where he later gave two written statements in which he admitted that he had stabbed both of the victims. At trial, he claimed that he was framed by the police, and testified that he confessed to the crimes only because the officers struck him and threatened him. The jury did not buy it. Police found a knife, some blood on his clothes, and Charles' eyeglasses on his apartment couch, which Hughes later said were planted. Citations: Hughes v. State, 878 S.W.2d 142 (Tex.Crim.App. 1992). (Direct Appeal) (On Rehearing) Hughes v. Quarterman, 530 F.3d 336 (5th Cir. 20008). (Federal Habeas) Final/Special Meal: Texas no longer offers a special "last meal" to condemned inmates. Instead, the inmate is offered the same meal served to the rest of the unit. Final/Last Words: "You know I'm innocent and I love you both. Please continue to fight for my innocence even though I'm gone. Give everybody my love. Bye. OK Warden." |

Morales was shot 12 times and Yanez was shot 11 times. The sound of the gunfire woke Yanez’s 14-year-old daughter, who called 911 before looking out her bedroom door. She saw two men, and eventually identified them as Ochoa and Osvaldo Torres. Ochoa and Torres were arrested a short distance from the murders. A short time before the shootings, Torres and Ochoa parked their car at a friend’s house, and a witness observed one of the men take a gun from the trunk of the car and put the gun in his pants. Richard Dale STOKLEY Executed by lethal injection in Arizona on December 5, 2012 ![]() Victim: Mary Snyder, 13, and Mandy Meyers, 13 Crime: 38 year old Stokley and 20 year old Randy Brazeal kidnapped two teenage girls from a Fourth of July weekend fair in the southeastern Arizona town of Elfrida. They drove the girls out into the desert, where they raped them. Fearing the consequences, they agreed to kill the girls, and each man strangled one of the girls. To ensure that the victims were dead, Stokley repeatedly stomped on them, and stabbed each of them in the right eye. Stokley and Brazeal then threw the bodies down a water-filled mine shaft. DNA analysis indicated that both defendants had intercourse with Mandy. The day after the murders, Stokley turned himself in, confessed, and directed police to the bodies. Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
Manuel PARDO Jr. Executed by lethal injection in Florida on December 11, 2012 ![]() Victim: Mario Amador, 33 / Roberto Alfonso, 28 / Luis Robledo, 37 / Ulpiano Ledo, 39 / Michael Millot, 43 / Fara Quintero, 28 / Sara Musa, 30 / Ramon Alvero, 40 / Daisy Ricard, 38 Crime: The former Boy Scout and Navy veteran began his law enforcement career in the 1970s with the Florida Highway Patrol, graduating at the top of his class at the academy. But he was fired from that agency in 1979 for falsifying traffic tickets. He was soon hired by the police department in Sweetwater, a small city in Miami-Dade County. In 1981, Pardo was one of four Sweetwater officers charged with brutality, but the cases were dismissed. He was fired four years later after he flew to the Bahamas to testify at the trial of a Sweetwater colleague who was accused of drug smuggling. Pardo lied, telling the court they were international undercover agents. Then over a 92-day period in early 1986, Pardo committed a series of robberies, killing six men and three women. He took photos of the victims and recounted some details in his diary, which was found along with newspaper clippings about the murders and a Nazi memorabilia collection. Pardo was linked to the killings after using credit cards stolen from the victims, and accidentally shooting himself in the foot during the final murder. Pardo testified in the guilt phase of the trial against the advice of counsel and insisted that he was sane despite his insanity defense. He acknowledged that he killed all nine victims, but claimed that all nine victims were drug dealers who had no right to live and that he was doing society a favor. The jury rejected the insanity defense. Accomplice Rolando Garcia is currently on Florida Death Row awaiting execution. Citations: Pardo v. State, 563 So.2d 77 (Fla. 1990). (Direct Appeal) Pardo v. State, 941 So.2d 1057 (Fla. 2006). (PCR) Pardo v. Secretary, Florida Dept. of Corrections, 587 F.3d 1093 (11th Cir. 2009). Under Department of Corrections rules, the meal's ingredients have to cost $40 or less, be available locally and made in the prison kitchen. Final Words: "Airborne forever. I love you, Michi baby," referring to his daughter. |

Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
What is interesting to me are two things. One, how many actually say that it hurts or they feel the chemicals in their arms. Not that I actually care after the heinous crimes they've committed but I figured if they were even given the chance for a final statement they would wait to administer the drugs. And two, how many like to include their favorite football teams. Oh, and being a southern girl, how many say "y'all"....keeping that southern pride
