Re: 2011 Executions in the USA

Martin Link

Executed February 9, 2011 12:15 a.m. by Lethal Injection in Missouri

Victim:

Crime:

Just before 6:30 a.m., 11 year old Elissa Self left her house for the school bus stop. When she did not arrive, the school called Elissa's parents, who called the police. Four days later, her body was discovered near a recreation area in the St. Francis River, 135 miles south of St. Louis. Link was later pulled over on a traffic stop, and after a high speed chase, Link crashed his car into a telephone pole and was taken into custody. Officers then found a jar of petroleum jelly with Link's fingerprints on it and flecks of blood embedded in the jelly. DNA tests conducted by two different labs showed that Link's DNA matched the DNA found in sperm cells on vaginal swabs taken from Elissa's body. The state's DNA expert set the odds of such a match at one in 6,600. The testing also revealed that Elissa's DNA matched the DNA in the blood found in the petroleum jelly jar seized from Link's car. The odds of that match were one in 48. The joint probability of both of these matches occurring by chance was less than one in 300,000. At trial, Link called two DNA experts to testify that the DNA tests performed by the other two laboratories were faulty, and that the probabilities were oncorrect.

Link v. Luebbers, 469 F.3d 1197 (8th Cir. 2006) (Habeas).

Final Meal:

A sausage and pepperoni pizza, lasagna, garlic bread, a chef's salad, New-York-style cheesecake, a strawberry shake and Dr. Pepper

Final Words:

"The state says killing is wrong, so why do they do it? For revenge. Where is the closure? There is none. The death penalty is an act of revenge. Many men sit on death row, some innocent, some not. So what happens when a man is executed and it's later learned he was, in fact, innocent? He can't be brought back."

Re: 2011 Executions in the USA

This guy and his accomplice are total scum. Torturing and killing a mentally disabled girl is beyond me... Fucking **** got what they deserved now:

Michael Wayne Hall

Executed February 15, 2011 06:23 p.m. CDT by Lethal Injection in Texas

Victim:

Crime:

Hall, then 18, and Robert Neville, 23, went to the Kroger grocery store in Arlington where their friend and former co-worker, Amy Robinson, worked as a checker. They picked a spot and waited in their car for her to ride by on her bicycle. They had a rifle, a pellet gun, ammunition, and a crossbow with them. When Robinson rode by, Hall and Neville coaxed her into their car, promising that they would drop her off at work after taking a short drive in the country. After driving about twelve miles from the store, Neville pretended to have a flat tire and pulled the car over. Hall persuaded Robinson to exit the car. As Robinson walked toward Neville, he fired a crossbow at her several times, all of which missed. Hall shot her in the back of the leg with his pellet gun. He and Neville laughed at Robinson when she cried in pain. Neville then obtained a .22-caliber rifle from the car and shot her in the chest. Hall then shot her in the chest "three or four or six times" with the pellet gun. Neville then killed her with a shot to the head. They left the victim and her bicycle where they would not be easily discovered, then left. Both men returned to the scene a few days later, Neville fired shots into Robinson's body and Hall took keys and money from her pocket. Two weeks later, Hall's mother reported to the police that he had been missing for several days. Hall's stepbrother told the police that Hall told him he and Neville abducted and killed Amy Robinson. Hall and Neville were arrested while trying to cross the border into Mexico. Robinson's body was discovered the same day. Hall told authorities that he decided to kill someone because he was angry that the had a "sucky-ass" life. In television interviews after their arrests, the two men bragged about the killing. A tape of the news interview was played to the jury.

Hall v. Quarterman, 534 F.3d 365 (5th Cir. 2008). (Habeas)

Final/Special Meal:

Chicken cooked three different ways, pizza, brownies, sweet iced tea, milk and vanilla pudding.

Last Words:

"I would like to give my sincere apology to Amy's family. We caused a lot of heartache, grief, pain, and suffering, and I am sorry. I know it won't bring her back." He continued speaking, saying he was changed by Christ and was not the same person anymore, and asked for forgiveness. "I am sorry for everything. I wish I could take it back, but I can't."

Re: 2011 Executions in the USA

And this here is his Hall's accomplice executed in 2006:

Robert James Neville Jr.

Executed February 8, 2006 06:19 p.m. CST by Lethal Injection in Texas

Victim:

Crime:

Neville and Michael Wayne Hall worked at the same grocery store where 19 year old Amy Robinson was employed as a sacker. Robinson suffered from Turner's syndrome, which inhibits physical development, and a diminished mental capacity. One morning on the way to work together, they saw Robinson riding her bicycle and offered her a ride. Instead, they took her to a rural field in Fort Worth where she was shot repeatedly with a pellet gun, then killed with shots from a .22-caliber rifle as she begged for her life. During the investigation of her disappearance, Hall’s stepbrother told police that Hall had told him that he and Neville had abducted and killed Robinson. The two were arrested attempting to cross over into Mexico. Upon arrest, Neville acknowledged killing Robinson and told police where to find Robinson’s body. Neville told police that he and Hall were white supremacists and that they wanted to kill blacks. Neville and Hall purchased two .22-caliber rifles and ammunition and practiced shooting the rifles. Neville boasted about the slaying and told investigators, as well as TV and newspaper reporters, that he laughed as Robinson lay on the ground, gasping for air. Neville explained in a TV interview that he and Hall killed the woman "for the adrenaline rush" and that Robinson was used for "target practice." Both Hall and Neville were convicted of Murder and sentenced to death. Neville was released from prison eight months prior to the murder after serving two years of a 10-year prison term for burglary.

Neville v. Dretke, Not Reported in F.Supp.2d, 2004 WL 2049335 (N.D. Tex. 2004) (Habeas)
Neville v. Dretke, 423 F.3d 474 (5th Cir. 2005) (Habeas)

Final Meal:
Declined.

Final Words:

Neville apologized profusely, addressed his victim's mother by name as she and her two daughters stood close to the glass with their arms around each other. He expressed love to them. "I hope you can find it in yourselves to forgive me and I hope all this here will kind of settle your pain. And I hope the Lord will give you comfort and peace. I just want you to know I am very sorry for what I have done. If I see Amy on the other side, I will tell her how much you love and miss her. And we will have a lot to talk about." Neville then turned toward his parents, who watched through an adjacent window. "I am sorry for putting you through all this pain and stuff," he said. "I love you all and I will see you on the other side."

May they both rot in hell
