Re: 2010 Executions in the USA
In the United States of America most states give the meal a day or two before execution, and use the euphemism "special meal". Alcohol or tobacco is usually denied. An unorthodox or unavailable request will be replaced with a substitute. Some states place tight restrictions. For example, Texas limits last meals to food available within the prison system, though occasionally permitting food "from the free world". In Florida, the food for the last meal must be purchased locally and the cost is limited to $40. The motherfuckers who have no last words piss me off to no end. |

Re: 2010 Executions in the USA
Got the two most recent ones: Teresa Lewis Executed September 23, 2010 9:13 p.m. by Lethal Injection in Virginia ![]() Crime: Using sex and promises of money, Lewis persuaded two men to kill her husband and stepson in a failed effort to gain $250,000 in life insurance proceeds. Julian Lewis, 51, and C.J. Lewis, 25, were hit with multiple shotgun blasts in their beds while Lewis stood by in the kitchen of the family trailer early that morning. As her husband was dying, she took his wallet, split the money inside it with the gunmen, and then waited 45 minutes to call for help. The shooters, Matthew Shallenberger, who was her lover, and Rodney Fuller, each were sentenced to life. In light of her confession and other evidence, Lewis and her attorneys became convinced that Lewis’ best chance of avoiding the death penalty would be to plead guilty and submit to sentencing by the trial judge, who had never imposed the death penalty. They were wrong. The evidence led the judge to deem Lewis "the head of this snake," and he sentenced her to death. Citations: Lewis v. Commonwealth, 267 Va. 302, 593 S.E.2d 220 (Va. 2004) (Direct Appeal). Lewis v. Wheeler, 609 F.3d 291 (4th Cir. 2010) (Habeas). Final/Special Meal: Fried chicken, sweet peas, a Dr Pepper, and apple pie for dessert. Final Words: "I just want Kathy to know I love you and I'm very sorry." |

Brandon Joseph Rhode Executed September 27, 2010 10:16 p.m. by Lethal Injection in Georgia ![]() Victims: ![]() Crime: Rhode and Daniel Lucas were ransacking the Moss home in search of valuables when 11 year old Bryan Moss saw them through a front window and entered through a back door armed with a baseball bat. They wrestled Bryan to a chair and Lucas shot him in the shoulder. When they heard 15 year old Kristin approaching the house, Rhode forced her to a chair and shot her twice with a pistol. Rhode then ambushed Steven Moss when he arrived home, shooting him with the same pistol. Lucas later shot each of the victims again to make sure they were dead. Accomplice Lucas was also convicted of murder and sentenced to death in a separate trial and remains on death row. Citations: Rhode v. State, 274 Ga. 377, 552 S.E.2d 855 (Ga. 2001). Re: 2010 Executions in the USA
Michael W. Benge Executed October 6, 2010 10:34 a.m. by Lethal Injection in Ohio ![]() Victim: ![]() Crime: Benge was a crack addict who argued in the car of his girlfriend along the Miami River, and culminated outside the car in him beating her repeatedly in the head with a tire iron. He then weighted her body with concrete and slid it into the river, leaving her car stuck in the bloodstained mud. Benge swam across the river and found his way to a friend's house, where he told his friend's girlfriend that he intended to tell police he and his girlfriend were jumped by two black men and that his girlfriend was beaten. He later gave Gabbard's ATM card to two black men and urged them to use it to extract drug money, a move that was intended to frame them for the murder. The three withdrew a total of $400 from Gabbard's account for Benge's drug purchases. Upon questioning, Benge at first stuck to this story, then changed and admitted that he had beaten her, but only after she tried to run him down with the car. Final/Special Meal: A large chef salad with ham, turkey and bacon bits, bleu cheese and ranch dressing, barbecue baby back ribs, two cans of cashews and two bottles of iced tea. Final Words: "I can't apologize enough and I hope my death gives you closure. That's all I can ask. Praise God and thanks. As for Judy's family, I've caused you all more pain than you all can endure in your lifetime. I just hope someday you can find peace in your hearts. |

Re: 2010 Executions in the USA
Hey Az. I am beginning to like Texas more and more. In my prison, prisoners would be escorted alone to the dining area and fed the same meal as the rest of the prisoners that day. To commit a crime so heinous that it is a death sentence means no special favors. |
