Appeals and stuff? Would be cheaper to execute them right after trial.

Ronnie Lee Gardner

In 1980 Gardner was sent to prison for robbery and escaped in 1981. Two weeks later, Gardner confronted a man who was sleeping with his girlfriend. He was wounded by gunfire and was eventually arrested and returned to prison. In 1984 he was taken to the hospital for a check-up where he overpowered a guard, stole his pistol and escaped again. Three months later, Gardner shot and killed Melvyn John Otterstrom as he tended bar at the Cheers Tavern in Salt Lake City.

On April 2, 1985 Gardner was under a $1.5 million bail and was transported from the Utah State Prison to the Metropolitan Hall of Justice in Salt Lake City for a pretrial hearing on a second degree murder charge for killing Melvyn Otterstrom. As Gardner and his guards entered the courthouse basement, Carma Jolley Hainsworth, walked up and handed Gardner a gun. It was later discovered that she had also hidden a bag containing men's clothing, duct tape and a knife in a tote bag under a sink in the women's bathroom in the basement of the courthouse. The guards exchanged gunfire with Gardner, shot him through the lung, and then retreated from the area. In attempting to escape, Gardner entered the archives room, where he shot and killed attorney Michael Burdell, hiding behind the door. Gardner then forced prison officer Richard Thomas, who was also in the basement, to conduct him out of the archives room to a stairwell leading to the second floor. As Gardner crossed the lobby, he shot and seriously wounded Nicholas G. Kirk, then 58, a uniformed bailiff who was unarmed and had just stepped off an elevator. Gardner climbed the stairs to the next floor, where he took hostage Wilburn Miller, a vending machine serviceman. As Gardner exited the building, Miller broke free and escaped. Outside, Gardner was surrounded by half a dozen waiting policemen with drawn weapons. Ordered to drop his weapon, he threw down his gun and lay down, surrendering to the officers.

Gardner fasted from food in the 36 hours leading up to his death, drinking only liquids. He ate his last meal Tuesday evening — a feast of steak, lobster tail, apple pie, vanilla ice cream and 7UP.

Martin Edward Grossman

Executed February 16, 2010 06:17 p.m. EST by Lethal Injection in Florida

Grossman and a 17 year old companion, Thayne Taylor, drove to a wooded area in Pinellas County and were shooting a stolen handgun when they were approached by Margaret Park, a Florida Wildlife Officer. Park confiscated the weapon and license of Grossman, at which point Grossman pleaded with her to not report him for possessing a weapon, which was a violation of his probation for a burglary charge. Park picked up the radio to call the sheriff’s office, but was repeatedly struck on the head and shoulders with her flashlight by Grossman and was then beaten by Taylor. She managed to exclaim “I’m hit” over the radio, and deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office began responding to her location. Park drew her weapon and fired a shot within the vehicle, and disabled Taylor with a kick to the groin. Grossman, who was one foot taller and one hundred pounds heavier than Park, wrestled the weapon away from her and shot her once in the back of the head. Grossman and Taylor fled the scene with Park’s gun. Theytold a friend of the incident, who reportred it to the police. Upon arrest, Taylor confessed.

Grossman didn't request a last meal before the execution, but purchased from the prison canteen a chicken sandwich, a can of fruit punch and banana cream and peanut butter cookies.

"I would like to extend my heartfelt remorse to the victim's family," he said. "I fully regret everything that occurred that night, for everything that was done, whether I remember it or not." After making his statement, he recited the Shema, a central prayer in the Jewish Scripture. It is traditional for Jews to say the prayer as their last words.

Vernon Lamont Smith

Crime:

Sohail Darwish was a palestinian immigrant who owned and operated a small store called the Woodstock Market in Toledo. Smith and Bryson made plans to rob the store and entered together. As Darwish was ringing up the sale on the cash register for a forty ounce beer, Smith brandished a black gun and ordered Darwish to “[o]pen the cash register, motherfucker.” Darwish put his hands up in the air and did not resist. Bryson went behind the counter and unsuccessfully attempted to open the register. Bryson then ordered Darwish to open the cash register, which he did. Darwish then put his hands back up in the air. Smith then told Darwish to "empty your wallet, motherfucker.” As Darwish was reaching for his wallet, Smith fired a single shot, hitting Darwish in the chest. Smith then ordered Tahboub to empty his wallet as well, and the two assailants then fled the scene. Darwish bled to death from the gunshot wound.Layson, who was waiting in Bryson's car, noticed Smith holding a gun in his hand when he and Bryson climbed back into the automobile. According to Layson, Smith complained about forgetting to get the beer and said he shot the man because “he moved too slow,” and then said “[F]uck him, he in our neighborhood anyway. He shouldn't be in our neighborhood with a store no way.” Later, Smith, Bryson and Layson split the money taken. Bryson and Layson pled guilty and testified against Smith at trial, along with a customer who identified Smith as the shooter.

Accomplice Bryson was sentenced to 8-25 years for Involuntary Manslaughter. Accomplice Layson was sentenced to 10-25 for Aggravated Robbery and paroled in 2001.

Excellent posts. Some thoughts: I love Texas justice as Death Row means Death Row and not spending 20 years waiting to be executed and costing taxpayers millions of dollars in prison and legal fees.

The fat Santa Claus fuck sex offender. Yet another example of why sex offenders need to be castrated so they can never hurt anyone again. There should also be NO PAROLE for a violent sex offender or one who commits a crime against a child. They are sick bastards and there is no cure. They are paroled and released only to commit more crimes against women and children.

Unfortunately evidence suggests that castration is an unreliable means to stop them re-offending. Even if you chop their dicks off, they'll still have the obsession.

Keep in mind too, you can be charged with a sex crime for being 18 and having sex with a 17y/o, if the parents don't like it. I would give a sex offender one chance to reform, then all of it goes, the nuts, the dick all of it! Then its fed to a baboon while he watches. But hard proven, unremorseful rapists should put people in the running for the death penalty on its own merits.
