Columbine was the first school shooting that happened in an era of mass media, with the internet broadcasting to the whole world in real-time. This is a large part of why Columbine is regarded as the most significant school shoot to date/ever. It was/is the blueprint for many copy-cat crimes since. There are literally thousands of references to Columbine, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris on the web.
