The Green Man Pub, Forgotten & Buried Under a Shopping Center

(Source)

TALK ABOUT A LOCK IN! Abandoned pub closed in the early 90s is found underneath a Loughborough shopping centre

Vintage boozer still has old cans and pub signs from when it was closed in 1993

CURIOUS pub fans went down the drinking hole to find an abandoned boozer — underneath a shopping centre.

The Green Man beneath Loughborough’s Carillon Court is frozen in time, being stocked with vintage drinks cans and dusty old pint glasses.

Its entrance was boarded up 22 years ago before the pub was entirely built over during renovation work, and the only way to access it is down a set of ladders from a shop above.

Developers have been put off by the cost of reopening the site over the years — but we think it looks ale-right as a museum to classic drinking dens.

The last time people were down there was 2011 when investors looked at the place and decided to back out.

The Green Man's fate seems uncertain as even the shopping center owners don't want to do anything with it. If you're ever in Loughborough be sure to check it out, but remember you have to bring your own beer!

Re: The Green Man Pub, Forgotten & Buried Under a Shopping Center

It's understandable that an investor would back out of that, given it's at ground-level and requires structural refortifying.

My first thought: a good place for middle eastern/Indian restaurant.

I was going to post this some time ago Funky, but never got round to it. Loughborough is in my county - about 10 miles from here. Thanks for sharing! You don't see 'dimple' pint pots/glasses in pubs much nowadays. Maybe some working men's clubs or place that's not been touched for years. I remember watching my granddad supping his many pints from a dimple pot! (Actually I've just found out from google that the dimple glass is back again and is cool!)

Re: The Green Man Pub, Forgotten & Buried Under a Shopping Center

I keep Anchor Hocking (a major American glass maker) 20oz mugs (almost pints) as my main-glass here at my house. My ex made us use plastic tumblers/etc, which I hated. Once she shipped-off, I bought a 12-pack of 20oz AH mugs and another 12 of 20oz "tea" glasses.

Once I saw those "dimple" pint glasses, I wanted a dozen. (Actually 14, as the tend to break with use... keep a few extra as the may not make yours the next year.) I love my pint mugs, but there's always room for more. :-D
