Fort Casey - Whidbey Island, WA

I don't really know if I'd called it abandoned per se as it is now a state park. Fort Casey is one of many WWI and WWII forts that protected the Puget Sound. It's one of the largest old forts I've been to in the PNW and is an awesome place to go if you're ever in the area...

Here is what I was able to squeek out photography wise on my 1 hour trip there with the family a few weeks ago. Photo's are barely edited (if it all.) I'd have to say that these are some of my better photos I've ever taken... I am still learning as a photographer...

That place is beautiful. When I lived in Everett, my family frequented the park adjacent to the fort for picnics and kite flying. Lovely views and a great breeze every time.

They also have two of the old 10-inch "disappearing carriage" anti-naval guns still in place there.

Yeah, I was so wrapped up trying to take the pics above that I forgot to do general photography... The ones I do have, they are family pics that I won't post up on DR...

Re: Fort Casey - Whidbey Island, WA

Yep! Fort Flagler and Fort Worden are also some real cool parks... Port Townsend houses Fort Worden... Fort Casey is right across the bay from Port Townsend/Fort Worden... Some interesting history in these forts... Especially Fort Canby (outlet of the Columbia river into the Pacific Ocean...) I keep hearing about 9/11 and Pearl Harbor being the only attacks on American soil but if you go to the Fort Canby visitor center, they tell you that in WWI, a Japanese submarine actually fired/attacked the US just off the coast... We sunk the submarine and it apparently is still out there...
