UFC No. 1 heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem produced a testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio of 14:1 in his failed urine test, Nevada state athletic commission executive director Keith Kizer told MMA Fighting on Thursday, shortly after he learned of the final result.

The average male produces a T/E ratio around 1:1. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) uses a 4:1 standard for positive tests, and NSAC uses 6:1 as its cutoff, a number used by WADA up until 2006.



In NSAC's original statement announcing the flagged result, Overeem was said to have tested at a level higher than 10:1.

Overeem has the right to ask for his B-sample to be tested to ensure the accuracy of the result. That would likely trigger a carbon isotope ratio test, which would determine whether the testosterone in his body was natural or synthetic.

Because Overeem (36-11, 1 no contest) is unlicensed in Nevada, he cannot be punished for the test, but he would face an uphill task in trying to gain a license to fight Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 as originally scheduled.

Overeem's number is slightly lower than that of Chael Sonnen when he was caught with an elevated level in 2010. Sonnen, who lost to Anderson Silva the day after the test was taken, produced a sample with a 16.9:1 ratio.

To date, the UFC has still not addressed any potential replacement for Overeem, though a source with knowledge of the situation said the promotion would most likely choose former champion Frank Mir to face dos Santos.

Being it is Overeem we're talking about here I cant say Im surprised with what has happened, it just a matter of time. I sure was want to see that fight though...BAD!!!

I am gutted. I was getting sick of people accusing him of being on peds when If you check out any bodybuilding forum its clear that weight gain like that is acheivable (sic?) naturaly over a 5 year period. Even if he does appeal and win we will never hear the end of this one. Maybe it was the horse meat

Reem was granted a conditional license to fight Brock. One condition was that he was to be subjected to random testing after the fight.

I never judged the guy cause he never pissed hot until now. In hindsight, the guy rarely fought in North America. The time he was going to get tested and made an emergency exit to Holland cuz he said his mother was Ill. And the point you made with all that added muscle in about 5 years.

I'm still hoping he wins this but wtf is he going to say at his hearing?

nope. He passed a drug test before and after the brock fight as far as im aware though the article you posted suggests otherwise. I just dont understand why he took the test. Unless he has been using some kind of masking agent in the past. I hope he passes the b test.

I am a reem fan but if he has been using peds he can fuck off and die as far as im concerned (I mean that literally). This is not baseball or football, at the end of the day the aim is to inflict pain on another person. Fighters lives are on the line to an extent. Peds in combat sports should be treated the same way as loaded gloves. Luis Resto went to prison for loaded gloves IMO its just the same as peds. Again I hope this is all wrong but 14:1!!!! for fucks sake....

another intresting point is the tweet nelson made after the tests that he JDS and Bigfoot were all good boys and didn't run. Did Overeem try and get out of doing the test?
