Vintage Drug Related Deaths

Some pictures from the site deep6inc.com . More info on the site (backstories , etc.) Deaths seem to be from late 70s, early 80s. Great site!
The man in the picture at left was attempting to inject amphetamine (speed) into a vein, but instead injected it into an artery. The artery constricted and the blood supply to the arm and hand was cut off. Dry gangrene developed in the right hand, and four of his fingers eventually had to be amputated.

This young woman had just moved into a new apartment with her husband and small child. Her husband and the apartment owner left the apartment complex to look for work. While they were gone, she was murdered by a drifter who knew the apartment owner. The murder was related to the disputed ownership of several pounds of marijuana.

After smoking marijuana laced with cocaine and later snorting more cocaine, this subject became "irrational, crazy, and wild" according to the police report. He assaulted several people, trashed his girlfriend's apartment, and ran naked into the street howling and grunting. He fought with the police and said he was Superman. The officers tried unsuccessfully several times to bind his legs, but the subject was able to break free. He was even able to break the plastic flex-cuffs placed on his ankles. It took nine police officers to finally subdue him. Then he suddenly stopped struggling and died.

The man shown here worked in a hotel. While under the influence of cocaine, he decided to “ride” down the laundry chute in the hotel. He placed a laundry basket at the bottom of the chute in the basement. He then ascended to the 16th floor and went down the laundry chute headfirst. Unfortunately, someone moved the laundry basket before he reached the bottom. He died of massive head injuries. (LMFAO)

This subject had been separated from his wife and children for four months. He wrote a letter to his wife, left a short suicide note, and took a lethal dose of cocaine.

This husband and wife were drinking and snorting cocaine. The wife became belligerent and combative. The husband responded by shooting his wife and then himself.

This young woman was attacked in her apartment by an upstairs neighbor who had been watching her for some time. He had her name on a list of possible victims, and he killer her the day before she was planning to move from the apartment complex. While high on cocaine, he stabbed her in the neck 130 times. During the assault, he cut his hand and left a telltale trail of blood which led straight to his apartment

In this case the woman’s son, who was a cocaine addict, tried to force his mother to give him money. When she refused be assaulted her and nearly cut off her head.

The addict in the picture at left was also on the nod when some prankster shoved a wad of paper into his mouth. He died from suffocation.

The heroin addict often suffers from chronic constipation and may go for several weeks without having a bowel movement. When the body of this addict was autopsied, a huge mass was found distending the large intestine. When the intestine was opened, the mass was found to be 22 pounds of fecal matter. This is an unusually large amount, but it provides a graphic example of what can happen.

The young man shown here was found dead on a friend’s couch. The frothy fluid at his nose and mouth is regularly seen in the heroin overdose because the drug stops the breathing before the heart stops beating. This causes the lungs to fill with fluid which bubbles out of the nose and mouth

The young man shown in the picture at right had used LSD and was having a psychotic reaction. This was his third suicide attempt. On the day of his death, he was apprehended by police in the garage of a neighbor. He said a voice was telling him to kill himself, and he was looking for a way to do it. Later that afternoon he was found hanging from a tree in a public park.

In the early cases, like the one shown here, the glue sniffer would smear glue in a plastic bag and place the bag over his head. He died as much from a lack of oxygen as from the fumes given off by the glue.

This young man was found dead on his bedroom floor. An aerosol can of cooking spray was on his bed. A cardboard tube from a toilet paper roll, stuffed with paper, was beside the body.

The young man shown here shot himself in the head. He was a known marijuana user. A marijuana leaf medallion can be seen around his neck. (<-LOL)

The subject in the picture committed suicide. He was attending alternative school to obtain a GED. Marijuana was found in his car. Note that he had removed one boot in order to reach the trigger of the gun with his big toe.

He committed suicide by taping an electrical cord to his chest and, with his foot in a pan of water, plugged the cord into an electrical outlet. Found among his meager possessions were a marijuana pipe and a small notebook titled “My Death Trip.” In it he had written these words:“I’m lost, I’m stuck here in between, a life that I’ve never seen, and I just can’t seem to carry on. I’ve traveled many miles, but I haven’t gone far and I just don’t care anymore.”

In this case, two young men met while at the beach. One of the men stole some marijuana from the other, then fled. The assailant chased down the thief, retrieved his marijuana, stabbed the thief to death, and then attempted to bury the body in the sand.

The person in this set of photographs was coming home from a party. She was driving at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a turn in the highway. Her car hit the concrete support of an overpass. She was positive for marijuana and amphetamine. A portion of her brain is visible on the dashboard. The pin on her jacket pocket was prophetic

The woman shown here was killed in a house fire. The origin of the fire was an abandoned cigarette left on a mattress in the bedroom. When awakened by the flames, the deceased managed to get to the bathroom where she collapsed. She had marijuana, alcohol, and opiates in her system when she died

This woman plunged to her death by jumping from a tower on a university campus. Her parents felt that although she stepped off the tower ledge, she was pushed off by LSD. They said that she had at least ten LSD experiences and that this led to her suicidal state of mind. She carried a note saying that she had escaped from a mental hospital and that "living was hell for me."

In this case, investigation revealed that about two weeks before his death, this man took, or was given a psychedelic drug. He told others that over this two-week period he had developed mystical powers and proclaimed himself the "Messiah." He said that he was going to die and return from the dead. On the day of his death, the subject leaped into a canal shouting, "I shall return by faith." He never resurfaced. Someone at the scene reported seeing him standing on the bottom of the canal with his hands outstretched like a Crucifix. As far as his prophecy is concerned, he did rise again. In three days his body rose to the surface of the water.

The two young women pictured here allegedly ingested LSD in a soft drink while at a party. They returned home late that night and "slept all day," according to relatives. They were found dead in bed the next evening. All drug tests performed during their autopsies were negative. However, this case occurred prior to the availability of a chemical test for LSD.

The pictures in this series were drawn by a professional artist. The artist developed a mental illness, not as the result of taking drugs. As the illness progressed, he continued to draw pictures of cats. If we look at a series of his pictures, we can gain insight into the same type of changes that are produced by psychedelic drugs. The first picture was drawn prior to the illness. In the second picture, we see the cat is disturbed, and the hair standing up. In the third picture, the background has become part of the figure. The colors are more vivid and the cat is menacing.

In the fourth picture of the series, the cat is still recognizable, but it has become stylized and almost surreal. In the next to last picture, we no longer see a cat but only forms of ears, eyes, and claws. In the final picture, the break with reality is complete. The artist can no longer distinguish what is real from what is unreal.

The young man in the picture was found dead on the floor of a gas station restroom. Beside the body was a small container of commercially produced cocaine. This overdose occurred years ago, before cocaine became a popular drug of abuse.

The man in this picture was found dead in a motel room. He had a Colombian passport in his possession. In his intestine, he had 86 finger cots filled with cocaine. Several of these had ruptured, as you can see in the photograph at right.

This young woman, with a six-month history of drug abuse, was on vacation and drove straight through from Illinois to south Florida. When she arrived, her friends said she smoked some marijuana and took MDA (a designer drug) and amphetamine. She then became paranoid and withdrawn, claiming that the Devil and a man were fighting over her. The next day she would not talk, eat or drink, and only sat and stared. The following morning her body was found on the ground below the balcony of her fifth floor hotel room.

According to this woman’s husband, she became agitated and hysterical, and began quoting verses from the Bible. She threw herself around the room, into furniture, and onto the floor. After two hours, the family succeeded in calming her down and getting her into bed. In the morning, her husband could not awaken her. She was dead on arrival at the hospital.

The man in this picture was a crack cocaine user. He had recently been released from the hospital after treatment for his cocaine addiction. At the time of his death, he had both cocaine and amphetamine in his system.

Shown here are three cases in which death was so sudden that the needle was still sticking in the arm or leg when the body was discovered.

This young man was found with his chin resting on the back of the commode. His cooker and matches were beside him. When the body was moved, a needle and syringe were found on the floor. On his arm was a prominent needle track.

These pictures are of the same woman taken over a ten-year period. This is a graphic example of what drugs can do to a person in a relatively short period of time.

The man in this picture was found on the floor of his bedroom, dead from a heroin overdose.

The heroin addict is said to "have a monkey on his back." The marijuana leaf illustrates the importance of gateway drugs in the process of addiction.(<-LOL, I'll bet that's what the decedent was thinking the leaf represented) The tattoos at right refer to opium smoking in China years ago.

The addict in the top photo overdosed while shooting up with friends. His friends treated the overdose by pouring milk into his mouth. He died not from an overdose of heroin, but because his well-meaning friends drowned him in milk. You can see the milk and vomitus caught in the hairs of his nose.

This drug-related homicide involved a heroin dealer who was shot while in the waiting room of a methadone clinic. Parked outside the clinic was his new car, and in his pocket were several thousand dollars in cash. A long needle track can be seen in the man's arm.

Unable to stop the flashbacks and seeing no way out, he got into his car, poured gasoline over the seat, tied his feet and hands, then struck a match. The text below is taken from this young man's suicide note. The pictures show his burned body inside the car."This Christmas I had a very bad experience with a drug called mescaline. I tried mescaline only once. Since then I have not been in control of my mind. I have tried to straighten myself out, but things are only getting worse. The drug experience had filled me with fear and doubts about myself. I cannot go on..."

The young man in this case was a brilliant student. He began his drug abuse by smoking marijuana. On his 18th birthday he tried LSD, which produced incredible hallucinations. He said that there was a Hell, that he had been there, and had spoken with the Devil himself. Despite his first bad trip, he took LSD a second time. This trip triggered a permanent religious mania, and he came to believe that Jesus Christ was an impostor.Sometime later, armed with a .22 caliber rifle and a sledgehammer, he entered a Catholic church and smashed the altar (shown at right). He then shot and killed the church custodian. After leaving the church, he shot and wounded four passers-by. He was then shot and killed by the police.

This case dates from 1974. This man was last seen alive sitting on a beachfront sea wall. According to witnesses, he was intoxicated from sniffing model airplane glue. He either jumped or fell into the water. His body was found two days later floating face down. His possessions consisted of a motel room key, 19 cents, and two tubes of airplane glue. A background check revealed a history of inhalant abuse. The frothy fluid seen in his trachea and larynx confirmed the cause of death as drowning.

This man was addicted to sniffing paint thinner. At the time of his death he was 30-years-old. He had been sniffing since he was ten. He was found dead in bed clutching a sock that had been doused with solvent. A can of paint thinner was found under his bed. It is interesting to note that an industrial solvent company regularly delivered paint thinner to his home.

The individual shown here died while sniffing ether. He was a habitual inhalant abuser and had built a special apparatus for inhaling ether. Inhaling any volatile substance in a closed system with no supply of fresh air is especially dangerous. If one is rendered unconscious by the fumes, and no one else is present to remove the mask or bag, then the person continues to breathe the fumes until he dies.

The boy shown here was found hanging from a small tree behind his home. His body was partially suspended, and his feet were in a drainage ditch. A can of spray paint was found tucked into the front of his pants. He was clutching an empty soda can in his left hand. The can contained paint residue. There was no note, and the family could offer no explanation for his suicide.

This young man and two friends went to a movie and then sniffed silver spray paint. While intoxicated by the paint, they went to his ex-girlfriend's house. When they arrived, the young man announced that he was going to kill himself. He took a .38 caliber revolver, loaded it with one bullet, placed it to his head and pulled the trigger twice. Nothing happened. When he pulled the trigger a third time the gun fired. The pictures at left show the paint residue found on his finger, lips and teeth. The picture at right shows a typical contact gunshot wound to his right temple.

A rash is an indication of long-term use. In the picture below, we can see gold paint residue and a skin rash on the chin of this inhalant abuser. This man was dead on arrival at the hospital. He and friends were sniffing paint at a residence when a fight broke out. The man was stabbed in the back and died of his wound. The stab wound is shown above. Gold paint was found on his hands as well as a defense wound on his left middle finger.

This man was "huffing" gold spray paint while seated on a coastal rock jetty. He was observed to look up, stare at the sun, yell and fall over backwards into the water. He surfaced and began swimming away from the shore until he finally sank.A spray paint can and sandwich bags were recovered at the scene. Gold paint is visible on his finger. The froth in his mouth is as the result of drowning.

The man in this photograph was found unconscious on his bed. In spite of efforts to revive him, he could not be saved. A bottle of recording tape head cleaner, which he had been sniffing, was found near the body. In addition to the inhalant, there was a belt very tightly buckled across his chest that severely restricted his ability to breathe. Attached to the inner surface of the belt were two Christmas tree bulbs that dug deeply into the skin and introduced an element of pain into the inhalant abuse procedure.

The young man in the yellow jacket met a drug dealer who promised to deliver some marijuana. They drove to a remote area to get the drug. The dealer pulled a gun, robbed the man, then shot and killed him.

The young woman in the blue sweater, shown in the pictures at right, met a similar fate but for a different reason. She owed money for marijuana to a drug dealer and couldn't or wouldn't pay up. She was beaten, strangled, and left beside the road. In her death throes, she reached out and clutched some weeds in an attempt to crawl away.

This young man was killed when he pulled out of a side street into the path of an oncoming truck. He tested positive for both marijuana and alcohol. A baggie of marijuana can be seen in his shirt pocket.

This man and a friend were smoking marijuana and decided to play Russian roulette. The revolver fired the first time the trigger was pulled. The revolver can be seen on the couch next to the body.
