I often wonder how those old Russian World War 2 vets that participated in rape, especially of children rationalize what they did when they think about the past.
There are still hundreds of thousands of Russian World War 2 vets alive today The majority of them probably didn't rape, but some of the ones that did still have to be out there.
What do they think when they look at their granddaughters and great granddaughters? War is hell, but a line of soldiers waiting to brutalize a child is even beyond hell.

If i remeber correctly one vet who was interviewed for Anthony Beevor's book "Berlin 1945" told that german girls and women welcomed soviets with gratitude and opened their thighs willfully.
Also: most frontline combat troops behaved actually quite well, it was the rear echelon troops who were most vicious.
