I have pictures of my grandfather and father logging like that, and when I was growing up, my dad would have me ride a draft horse with a harness attached, and haul out 2-6 logs at a time. We lived in northern MN and I remember getting off the draft horse after a day of logging, and not being able to walk...He has many pics of big hauls like the above pic. |

We did it on snow, which after a few runs, turned into an ice path. The snow wasn't too bad either, since it was powdery at first. The logs just glided on it. When we worked in the spring, summer or fall, the pine needles and moss made a nice bed to haul wood on. Slick!
