Most of these torture devices - those that are said to be from the Inquisition or otherwise from the Medieval era - are not rooted in historical fact. Most were created for museum displays in the 19th century. For example, there is absolutely no record of a spiked chair with or without a fire being used to torture during the Inquisition, and torture was documented in detail during both periods.
