1944 Village Massacre
Massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10, 1944 - the day that 642 men, women and children were murdered and the whole town was destroyed by fire in an attack by SS troops. One photo shows unburned body parts found with clothing still intact in the ruins of the Church in Oradour-sur-Glane. The photo below shows the burned corpse of Dr. Jean Desourteaux, the mayor of the town. His body was one of the 52 that could be positively identified. The 3rd photo shows the church where they were found after it was burned down, 1938. |
