U.S. Capitol On Lockdown After Car Ramming, Officers Injured

WASHINGTON – A situation is unfolding at the United States Capitol as staffers received a warning message to stay indoors after a car "rammed" into two police officers outside the Capitol Hill complex.

D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department reported that they received 911 call at 1:05 p.m. about a "possible shooting" near the Capitol. The MPD said Capitol Police were taking the lead.

A car appears to have crashed into a security barrier outside the Capitol Hill complex.

According to a statement from Capitol Hill police, "someone rammed a vehicle into two USCP officers" on Constitution Ave.

"A suspect is in custody. Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital," the statement said.

The gated entrance is one of several that allow access to the U.S. Capitol and is primarily used by senators and staff.

The suspect was shot and was being taken to the hospital in critical condition. One of the officers who was injured was taken by police car to the hospital; the other was being transported by emergency medical crews officials said.

The suspect who rammed his car into two Capitol Police officers, killing one and injuring another on Constitution Avenue Friday, has been identified.

NBC News reported that the suspect is Noah Green, 25, of Indiana.

Green was shot dead by police after ramming his car into a barricade and then charging at officers with a large knife.

Law enforcement officials told NBC News reporter Pete Williams that Green, who was from Indiana but may have had ties to Virginia, said on his Facebook that he was a follower of the Nation of Islam.

25-year-old former Christopher Newport University football player allegedly rammed a car into two police officers and a barricade Friday at the U.S. Capitol.
According to the Capitol’s acting police chief, Yogananda Pittman, Noah Green drove a car into a barricade then emerged from the vehicle with a knife and ran toward two police officers. One officer died and another was injured in the incident. Green was shot and later died in the hospital, Pittman said during a news briefing.
Pittman said Officer William “Billy” Evans died as a result of his injuries. He served with Capitol Police for 18 years and was a member of the First Responder’s Unit.
NBC reporter Pete Williams was the first to identify Green as the suspect after receiving information from law enforcement officials.
A CNU spokesperson confirmed in a news release that this was the same Green who had played football at the school in 2017 and 2018.
Green, according to CNU’s football roster, was born in Fairlea, West Virginia, and grew up in Covington, Virginia.
He was a member of the football and track teams at Alleghany High School and was named the football team’s most valuable player in 2013. He later went to college at Glenville State University in Glenville, West Virginia, where he was a sprinter on the track and field team and a defensive back for the football team.
Green graduated from CNU in 2019 with a degree in finance, according to the school’s news release.
Matt Kelchner, CNU’s head football coach in 2016, referred all inquiries on Green to the school’s public relations department.
The New York Times reported that Green on March 17 posted on a social media site a photo of a donation he made to Norfolk’s Nation of Islam chapter and a video of the Louis Farrakhan speech “The Divine Destruction of America.”
The Pilot could not immediately reach a representative of the local Nation of Islam chapter.
The New York Times also reported that Green, who most recently lived in Indiana, petitioned to change his name to Noah Zaeem Muhammad in December but didn’t show up for his hearing in Indianapolis last Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The man who rammed a car into two officers at a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol, killing one of them before he was shot to death by police, had been suffering from delusions, paranoia and suicidal thoughts, a U.S. official told The Associated Press on Saturday. Investigators believe it was an isolated incident from a disturbed young man.
Video of the Friday afternoon attack shows the driver emerging from the crashed car with a knife in his hand and starting to run at the pair of officers, Capitol Police acting Chief Yogananda Pittman told reporters. Police shot the suspect, 25-year-old Noah Green, who died at a hospital.
Investigators are increasingly focused on Green’s mental health as they work to identify any motive for the attack, said the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about an ongoing investigation and spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity. The official said investigators had talked to Green’s family, who spoke of his increasingly delusional thoughts.
In online posts since removed, Green described being under government thought control and said he was being watched. He described himself as a follower of the Nation of Islam and its founder, Louis Farrakhan, and spoke of going through a difficult time when he leaned on his faith. Some of the messages were captured by the group SITE, which tracks online activity.
“To be honest these past few years have been tough, and these past few months have been tougher,” he wrote in late March. “I have been tried with some of the biggest, unimaginable tests in my life. I am currently now unemployed after I left my job partly due to afflictions, but ultimately, in search of a spiritual journey.”
