Been thinking about this today. I wonder if the snake did it at all. Interested in autopsy results.

Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

IMHO I would have thought that the use of the word "strangled" doesn't seem like one I would use to describe the crushing injuries such a snake would inflict on children this age. I hope the police don't just take this at face value. Strangled to me implies a human act (around the neck) rather than the crushing constricting a snake would do. I am probably wrong but just because a snake has escaped from a reptile shop (an establishment that should have high security viv locks etc) I don't think they should jump to conclusions about the manner of death of these 2 poor kiddies.
Snakes kill their prey with constriction. They wrap around the body in a coil leaving only the head and neck visible, squeeze and then chow down.

But those boys were far too large for any snake that size to even attempt to devour them- I think it's safe to say that the python wasn't looking for a midnight snack. It's more likely that the snake was attracted by the body heat the boys gave off.

I've owned many different species of snakes, from a foot long Corn snake to a 7 ft 75lb Red Tailed Boa constrictor, and there were two things they all had in common; An incredible capacity for escaping what seems to be a completely sealed cage and 2. their tendency to try and wind around my neck and shoulders in an effort to get warm when I held them. Not once have I ever been attacked by them, but when you try to tug them away they instinctively tighten their hold (on anything, really, not just the neck). And they're strong little buggers, too.
I'm sure those kids would have woken up trying to get this thing off of them and wound up unintentionally making the situation worse by frightening the snake

Rock Pythons are very aggressive and VERY large as adults. Not for the novice reptile collector .

Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

"The two victims had been spending the night at the home of a friend. "

Omg. Makes me glad I'm not a parent. I don't think I could let them out of my sight without freaking out the whole time. It's like the two overnight guests in the Villisca axe murder house. Well, not exactly the same.
Watch out for those axe wielding snakes

Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

I'm sure it's not the first time the pet shop boys have choked on a python?

Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

This needs to be updated.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headline...se-police-say/

The python that strangled two young boys this week did not escape from the pet store below the apartment where the boys slept, as previously believed, but was a house pet kept inside the apartment where they were visiting friends, authorities in Canada said.

Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

Our local news showed the boys washing the snake, or a snake, in a shower and caring for it. I'll find the clip.

How horrible for them! They must have trusted it
