Volunteer's who protect their community have a name, they are called a neighborhood watch.
They don't get out of their cars and confront people like this guy did, because that is Law Enforcements job.
And yeah, his CCW doesn't extend to what he did by confronting someone in a LE capacity.

If they are attacking you and you are in fear for your life, I'd say yes. I'm 6'2 220 and served for 4 years in usmc and I assure you I can do some damage with my bare hands. If I was a smaller guy and couldn't fight and was getting my head bashed in on a concrete sidewalk, I would def shoot first and ask questions later.
