The mother is a smack head, her social media is full of stories all about migrants and all involving her daughter, she’s nuts. The girl with the knife and axe is the violent one. The police have reviewed all the CCTV, the guy was innocent, the kid has been arrested for having bladed weapons in public. Social services need to remove the kid from the mental mother

To put it in some context, bladed weapons are used and carried a lot more in Scotland than in England, it's always been known for it, it's part of their culture. So I don't think her having those should be a major issue, she should just get spoken to like an adult about how to legally defend herself. Instead the cops are being bell ends and charging her for political reasons, the useless fucking wankers.

It was an interesting article but given the longevity of this problem in Scotland I'd be very cautious about celebrating any downward trends just yet. It is still as much a part of their culture as Buckfast and Valium, to carry a knife is a Scotsman's right and part of their national dress. and I don't think any police crackdown is going to change their way of thinking other than supressing it temporarily.

The article you linked was also from 2017 which as you can see from the graph, was published on the back of an atypical downward trend in offensive weapons crimes. In the years following it surged again to record levels, last year having the highest number of these crimes reported since records began. I know these aren't knife crimes specifically but then again neither are sword attacks which seem to be a thing here too.

Statistics aside, I lived here in Scotland for 2 years between 2005-2007 and I live here again since 2023 and it seems to me that just as many people nowadays carry knives or other bladed weapons as they did twenty years ago.
