those dogs are like family to those officers. they work with them all day, spend off duty time training them, then bring them home every night. he was likely the only handler the dog had.... and all K9 officers i know consider their dogs as family and as a partner.

you'd forget about them about as readily as you'd forget about a child in a car.

i mean, he's basically saying that he got out of the car and the dog was silent. it didnt bark when it realized it wasnt getting out too? that's bullshit....

In my city the police cars are equipped with emergency systems to avoid this situation. Whether the squad car is running or not, if the temp increase to a certain point the windows go down (they have metal mesh) and the officer is remotely notified (key chain beeping).
Then if the temp still increases more and hits a certain point, the car doors are opened, releasing the dog and the officer and dispatch are notified.... and hopefully no one is speaking German nearby lol

I've rarely had animals in my car, but, they came out with one of us, as do children. I care for children every week.

They are always the first things to be taken out of the car and depending on their age, in a safe place, if too young to sit or play for a couple of minutes.

'phooey' was my father in law's command for stopping his dog from attacking. the rest of the commands were in German as well.

they do that here too. they are very involved in raising the dogs as well:

The Spokane Police Department’s first dogs were imported German Shepherds trained in Schutzhund (protection dog sport). The department soon started a unique puppy program with these dogs. The dogs are bred and the puppies are placed in the homes of interested officers. The K-9 Unit supervisor monitors their growth and at approximately one year of age, the dog is then tested for his potential to be a police dog. they have a site dedicated to just the k-9 unit, they have a 'top dog' competition with the dogs to see which one is 'the best'... you can even print out trading cards with local officers and their dogs if you want....

but this asshole claims he 'forgot' his partner in his car.
