A drunken deaf couple beat their baby girl to death because she wouldn't stop crying even though they couldn't hear her, police said.
Hector Rene Cupich-Quinones, 35, and Maria Guadalupe Zuniga, 37 allegedly battered the 5-month-old girl on Saturday night at their home in Richardson, Texas.

Cops claim Cupich-Quinones — who, like his wife, cannot hear or speak — became angry at the vibrations his daughter's screams were creating.

He is accused of shaking her and then smashing her head against a counter — before sliding her across the counter so she fell head-first onto the floor.

Cupich-Quinones then left his wife to put the girl to bed.
On waking up at 3 a.m. Sunday, he found the baby struggling to breathe.

He called paramedics, who noticed suspicious bruising while performing CPR.
The girl was rushed to Medical City Dallas Hospital, where staff spotted bruises on the baby’s chest, back, both arms and head.
The couple were arrested, and their child was pronounced dead at 10 p.m., Dallasnews.com reports.
Cupich-Quinones has been charged with capital murder, and Zuniga faces a charge of injury to a child. Both are being held in jail.

The parents of a 5-month-old girl found bruised and battered Sunday at the family’s Richardson home have been charged in her death.

Police say Hector Rene Cupich-Quinones, 35, has been charged with capital murder, and Maria Guadalupe Zuniga, 37, faces a charge of injury to a child. Both are being held in the city jail after their arrests over the weekend.

The father, who like his wife cannot hear or speak, confessed through an interpreter to beating their only child because she wouldn’t stop crying, according to police documents.

“My understanding is they feel vibrations and some noise, so they could tell the infant was crying,” police Sgt. Kevin Perlich said.

Authorities were called about 5:30 a.m. Sunday to the family’s home in the 1100 block of Shadyglen Circle, near East Belt Line and Plano roads. The responding officer performed CPR on the unconscious baby and, in the process, noticed suspicious bruises, police said.

The child was taken to Medical City Dallas Hospital and pronounced dead about 10 p.m. Hospital staff also suspected the child was a victim of abuse because she had bruises on her chest, back and both arms. She also had massive trauma to the back of the head.

Investigators questioned Cupich-Quinones and his wife and took them into custody after they admitted getting into an argument over their daughter’s crying.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the couple spent Saturday night drinking. Cupich-Quinones said he shook the baby to make her stop crying. When that didn’t work, he told police, he hit her head against a counter. He then slid her across the counter, and she fell head-first onto the tile floor, according to police documents.

Cupich-Quinones said he left the infant with his wife, who put her to bed. When he got up around 3 a.m., he found the child was barely breathing and got into another argument with his wife over who was responsible for her injuries. They then called 911.
