Tefillin, also known as phylacteries, are a set of small black leather boxes with leather straps that are worn over the middle of the forehead (where the Third Eye is located). They contain scrolls of parchment inscribed with verses from the Torah. Tefillin are worn by adult Jews during weekday and Sunday morning prayers. So, I'm sure Sam is wearing something similar but it's not Jewish.)

At any rate, his name is Sam Shamoun. He is quite possibly one of the greatest Christian apologists to have ever lived (no joke).

He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the bible and can quote you chapter and verse of passages rapid fire. He's almost like "Rain Man" if you understand the reference (he's like an idiot savant of the bible).

If you ever watch him debating someone, you will be amazed. I've yet to see any debater who challenges him walk away without feeling humiliated. He's that good.

You really didn't read the sales brochure, did you. Jesus never said that Christians would be protected from persecution. In fact, it's just the opposite.

John 15 - Jesus says, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. Matthew 5:10-12 [Jesus again] "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

I could go on, and on, and on.

Nowhere does the Bible promise that God will protect believers from bad things. Nowhere does it say that there is anything special about a physical church building or that people inside it will be safe. Jesus is desperately honest that Christians will be persecuted, hated, and murdered for their faith.

The hope of the Christian is in the next world, not this one. As the old saying goes, "the blood of the saints is the seed of the Church." Persecution only strengthens the church.

Look at this incident. Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel has gone from an obscure preacher only known to few to someone who is now famous globally. Unknown millions of people have seen his christlike response to his would-be murderer and are watching his videos on YouTube. His actions are being heard the loudest among Muslims. He could never have hoped for a larger breakthrough in his ministry. What the enemy meant for evil, God is using for good. This is how the Kingdom of Heaven works.
