Chinese Tourist Trapped on Glass Bridge.

This gets a big fat NOPE from me.
Quote:
A Chinese tourist was stranded 330 feet high on a glass-bottomed bridge in high winds Friday when floor panes blew off and smashed, according to local media.

The state-controlled news outlet Xinhua reported that the bridge, built over the Piyan mountain ravine in the northeastern province of Jilin, was damaged in gusts of up to 93 mph.

Pictures shared on social media show a before-and-after view of the bridge, with a tourist clinging to its metal framework. Much of the framework is twisted and buckled, with only a few glass panes — the only standing surface —remaining.

Re: Chinese Tourist Trapped on Glass Bridge.

After seeing all the Chinese elevator and escalator videos on this site, I don't think I would get anywhere near that "bridge".

Re: Chinese Tourist Trapped on Glass Bridge.

I get the feeling that the engineers factored-in people walking on the bridge, but didn't account for the possibility that strong winds gusting upwards from below would be enough to displace the glass from its frames.

Re: Chinese Tourist Trapped on Glass Bridge.

I'd still want a parachute. Should be free to borrow.

Thanks for the vid. I was in Shanghi on business 20 years ago, but I never had time to see the Great Wall.

Re: Chinese Tourist Trapped on Glass Bridge.

What people think about China and their build quality is correct. I've worked in the automotive industry for quite a while, and have many friends and family in the industry.

And from taking to them and other people, and reading up on many companies. Nearly all the automotive companies, whether it's windshields, replacement panels, headlights sheet mental skins ect. China built the plants and factories and started making the parts. And every single one of those companies, which were dozens and dozens, failed.

And had to hire people from America and Europe to come in and run the factories, train the staff, and basically teach them about quality control and what perfection is. Teach them that if something isn't an exact specification, it must be recycled.

Because they would just send out the product, with holes punches in the wrong position, windshields with distortion that would be dangerous to drive with. Or parts missing mounting positions attached.

This was in the 80's and 90's. Much of it has gotten much better. But I imagine there's a lot of it still going on. Especially important the stuff not exported.
