Unfortunately, probably. More young blacks are in the criminal justice system than in college, and we all know that our criminal justice system is a joke, there is no "rehab", they aren't taught any skills, the prisons are now being privatized, are businesses now and they need a steady stream of customers so they can bill us tax payers to take care of them. Just like higher education, it's morphed into a business, all customers qualify and business is good! White folk, they get their share of government expenditures on subsidized education and business expenses/ tax breaks. Black folk, they spend their share of government expenditures on prison and welfare. Gotta love food stamps and Obama phones! |

Obama phones? You DO know that this 'program' was created more than a decade ago and is funded by the universal service fee on all phone bills? The president has no direct impact on the program, and one could hardly accurately call these devices "Obama Phones," This specific program started under President George Bush, but hey, why let facts get in the way  |

And what about 'em? 80% of all black males in prison are there in on non-violent charges (i.e. cocaine related charges). And that's a fact. Take away or grant clemency to that 80% then how many blacks do you really have in prison left? Not many. Certainly not more then the number of blacks in the armed forces.

As of 2008, the U.S. Bureau of Justice estimated there were approximately 846,000 Black men in prison, (no more recent stats, but i'd bet there are more), so 80% would leave 169,200. Currently, the US military has about the same percentage of blacks on active duty as exists in the general population, or about 14%. Interestingly enough, African Americans in the volunteer force are more likely to enlist in administrative, medical, and support specialties rather than in combat specialties. Why? Because African Americans are more heavily represented among female than among male enlistees. But to answer your question, there's about 1.45 million US service people on active duty and 14% are women, so if we discount their number this leaves 1.25 million men and 14% (the % of blacks) of that is 175,302. So in conclusion, if we use your unsubstantiated 80% figure, that would leave 169,200 black men in prison (2008 figures, probably more now) and 175,302, (using current figures) that's basically A WASH. |
