500 Rupees Bet Over Swimming Across a Raging River Goes Wrong

A bet of just 500 rupees took away the life of a young man. To win a bet with his friends, 20-year-old Junaid jumped from Niwada bridge into the raging Yamuna river.

Junaid, originally a resident of Nangla village in Muzaffarnagar, has been living near the Idgah in Niwada village for a long time. Junaid used to run the household expenses by working as a labourer and used to load bricks in trucks.

On Wednesday afternoon, he reached the bridge with his three-four friends to check the water level of Yamuna.

During the conversation, the youths jokingly made a bet that whoever crosses the Yamuna will get 500 rupees. Junaid accepted this challenge and jumped from the bridge.

According to eyewitnesses, Junaid showed courage and tried to reach the other side of the river by swimming for about 600 meters. But due to the strong current, he suddenly lost his balance and drowned in the water.

He jumped into the waves and said- 'I lost... the water is very fast'.

Villagers and divers reached the spot after friends and passersby made noise. Search was done for a long time, but he could not be found.

Cheap way to get rid of an annoying neighbor. And you don't wind up paying, anyway, so Win-Win!

Worse comes to worse, he comes back and you have to pay him... but now he's comparatively clean from the river so it's still a win!

i saw this earlier, what an idiot accepting 500 rupees which in fact is known here in the UK as a monkey, however a monkey here is £500 whereas over there 500 rupees is appx $5-6
that current looked strong too, he was young and peer pressure i guess.
