marrying age in the Philippines is 21 for no parental consent, 18 needs parental consent... under 18, you cant be married even if your parents allow. Culture here does not really look in favor for those things done before marriage. there are a lot of those who dont follow that but they are frowned upon if known in public. so here, 16 is still a child. cultural difference i guess. Here, most of the so called "well to do" and from "decent families" refrain from marrying girls who are not virgins. They consider it a stain in their reputation. Of course, many of them guys does it with paid girls often, but they will seldom take one in marriage. That is why parents here, with high expectation from their daughters, always take it hard when their daughter's virginity were taken without marriage. It is still a killing matter here for most old families, if a boy takes a girl's virginity with no intention of marrying, even in their 20's. |
