Downshift manual and I think maybe possible on dct without it upshifting by itself. Apply the handbrake ever so lightly, switch. The car off if youre on a nice long straight .. etc

Re: Car Passenger Throws Himself from Car Going 200 Km/ph

If you turn off the engine, you definitely won't accelerate further. If you drive a manual transmission like I do downshifting is an option and the engine itself acts as a brake. Not sure what happens if you turn off the engine in gear in an automatic, but I would guess the same effect without the ability to downshift.
Most automatic transmission cars i have have +/- on them that also acts as manual transmission shifters. i frequently use them to downshift manually when going down a steep grade or hill to use as engine braking system. quite effective on the speeds i go. im not sure how it acts when you are driving 200 kph though.

Turning off engine may not be best idea because it also reduces braking and steering efficiency, especially with a ripped rubber tires. I vote for neutral gear, then coasting until you lose momentum. but im not the best driver so the rest here may have better ideas.

By turn off engine...Do you mean you just yank the key out of the ignition? You know, come to think of it, the last 5 years or so we haven’t had a vehicle that starts with putting a key in! We just press the start button.

Good Lordt! WTH could someone do if they are trapped in their car like that?!
I’m trying to picture the truck we have, it doesn’t even have those handle shifter things, you just have to turn the knob to park, reverse neutral drive...

Has nobody noticed "acc mode" before? It's how you can roll down windows/turn on the fan without actually starting the engine. If you take the key out, you're probably going to lock up the steering wheel and die faster. Guess it depends on the vehicle, mine handles well without power.
