I'm thinking the alpha (the doctor) had been playing house for some time, and not in a good way. As you can see there is not only two people but many and in this country this is normal. He had some kind of control over them and they decided to challenge the alpha. His death was the result. Or you could entertain the idea that the people involved were just influenced by one pyschopath...uhh but you'd be wrong i think.
